Had to move the truck, and since the hogs have been around, I figured i'd swing the headlights across the pasture. In the high beams, I saw a group take off to the left with no chance for a shot. But one had gone the opposite way. Thinking he may want to rejoin his buddies, I waited a bit -- and sure enough, he comes back, barreling through at a pretty good clip. But I was ready, picked him up in the scope and sent a 140 grain lead-tipped Nosler downrange. The range was long for a night shot (190-195 yards) and the shot a tough one, but this happened to be a rather unlucky hog. He ran right into that Solid Base, and it took out his heart and bottom third of the lungs. His momentum carried him maybe 8 steps from where he took the impact. The bullet did exit and left a quarter-sized proof of departure in its wake. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri | ||
