Was really a good night for a sit--not hot at all, and in fact, the breeze actually got a bit cool since I was in shorts and t-shirt. Only bad thing, I was downwind of a chicken grow-out facility, and the smell wasn't pleasant. barf

I tried a different tactic tonight---got in my swivel chair in the bed of the truck---I could see over the tall grass/weeds in the pasture and could scan 360 easily. First critter I saw was a deer, which disappeared--never figured out where/how though. Then on a scan about 10:30 I spotted two ladies and children headed my way. I have had them on camera for several weeks, but they have always been late (after midnight) diners and I was too lazy to wait them out.

Tonight was different, and I got settled on the shooting sticks, and popped Mom and then took 3 running shots at the other sow but never saw any clear indications of a hit. Swung back to the first one and the piglets were standing there like deer in the headlights---so I busted one and the other one took off. It ran in a circle first away from me then back at me and stopped about 20 yds away, and ate a .223 55-gr and was DRT. Collected them, dragged them to the buzzard buffet, and came home -- earlier than I expected.

Great, about time one of you hog killers
got some action.

Is that an exit wound in the throat?

.223 did that? Jeeze, I never had that much
damage except on p/dogs.

Thanks for posting. Very nice weather the last
couple days. Temps mid 80's. About over though.

George

George—that is the exit wound on the one shot at 20 yds. The other piglet has an exit about the size of a half-dollar.

Thanks Dusty.

what brand of bullet?

I shot a coyote one night that jumped up
on the trail right in front of me. Maybe
15 feet.

Hit just L of the tail root, inside and came out on the shoulder. Found the perfect mushroom in the skin up there. Dead dog instantly.

.223 55gr C/L. Not much over 1/8" thick, 3/8" dia.

Had several exit their ribs, some made quite
a hole. More so when bones were hit. Same hits with 40gr Vmax don't ever exit, or never did
for me.

Thanks for the replies.

George

Went out to fill feeders, clear shooting lanes, and put up new lights---hasn't been a hog at the trap or feeder since last Sunday when I shot the sow and two piglets.

Guess I'm making a difference at this place.

Still have about a half-dozen coming regular to the other place--time to go for a sit out there.
