would you have to use a air rifle??

Chopper sounds more effective, and probably safer, at probably no more cost. Clarence

I dunno about the first and third parts above, but a chopper (referring to the ones they actually use in hog shooting) is DAMN sure not as safe. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. You got that right--flying in what we (chopper pilots) call the dead man's zone. Too low and too slow if something goes wrong--no altitude or airspeed to bail you out. And surviving 20+ years flying and 2000 hours, I won't be doing any chopper hog hunting--no sir. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

Something has to keep those Hot Air balloons in the air. Last time I checked they have to keep those propane burners going to keep the balloons in the air, and they make a pretty good bit of noise. Even the rocks don't last forever.

I'd never get in one of those balloons. For a long time I wanted to, then saw one dangling from a high power line once. Then not long later I watched on the news a couple plummeting to earth with the bag on fire. Killed 'em all, not less than two per and I think there was half dozen others in 'em. Quite sometime ago. Nylon and fire don't make much sense to me. I set a nylon shirt on fire welding once. Mighty spooky stuff. Only chopper I was ever in was a troop carrier enclosed box under a grasshopper. Didn't like that at all, don't think any of the other 50 or so did either. Noisy as hell, shaking the whole time and couldn't see out either. I like to watch. Looked like it was connected by four bolts with springs and they were shaking around. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. I personally want no part of a hot air balloon or a chopper. Never been in a balloon and spent just enough time in a chopper documenting flood damage back in either the late 80s or early 90s to know I never want to repeat the experience. Has nothing to do with hogs, but I flew out of Juhu Aerodrome in Mumbai for three years on choppers going offshore. I never feared the pilots or the aircraft as much as I feared the aircraft maintenance and the training of the people onboard with me. It was standard knowledge that HUET certifications were bought rather than earned. We flew at 1,000'. I'll be hunting hogs with my feet on the ground, or in something with ITS feet on the ground.

C'mon, you mean none of you guys watched "5 Weeks in a Balloon" in your school gymnasium and thought it would be a cool way to hunt Africa? I'm shocked gentlemen, I truly am. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Kensco--you are right about the maintenance--and that's why I've not flown a single hour since I retired. Corporate decisions are driven by the bottom line and too often that results in cuts in things that don't produce income in their minds, such as maintenance. Well, one could construct a helium envelope, 50x20x20 which would have a lift of 1280 pounds which would have to include balloon and engine wt as well as controls to be functional. Interesting. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us?
