Well, the hogs haven't been around much lately, but that changed today. Andy took a nice sow from 145 yards using his Contender rifle with 24" MGM barrel in .223. That 1:8 barrel is a tack-driver with the Sierra 65 grain GameKing -- the same load he used to harvest two does during the whitetail season. Thanks to the recent rains and our lack of shredding, he had a hard time getting the shot he wanted, and when the sow finally stopped near the top of the creek bank, her vitals were covered by grass. So he ran the dot of the Docter 3-12x56 all the way to the cranial cavity and let one fly. The bullet flew true, and the hog simply folded on the spot. Tonight, we are keeping an eye on the weather. Tornado sirens went off twice in the nearest town, and a flood warning is in effect after some torrential downpours this afternoon/evening. It's going to be a long night out here... Bobby---you are getting lots more rain than we are in Seguin it seems. My hog spot at Belmont got 4.5" in 2 hours yesterday. We got either 1" or 2" depending on which rain gauge you believe. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool" | |||
