A local farmer called me and said he had some hogs coming into his peanut field. He said he thought they were staying in a corner that was grown up chest high in Camphor weed. I loaded some young pups along with the catch dogs and got there about daylight yesterday morning. It was hot and steamy with no breeze. I drove around the peanut field until I saw the tracks where they had left the weeds and went back into the weeds after feeding. I let the pups out and right away they took to the weeds. It wasn't long until one pup bayed. When the other two got there the hogs broke and one of them came out just behind the truck so I let the catch dogs out and they caught her out in the peanut field. After I got to them I could still hear the curs baying so I quickly stuck her and then loaded them back up. When I got back to the weeds the bay had broke and I started looking for the pups. They had taken the hogs out the back into a freshly plowed field and we quickly took care of them. It was getting to hot for me so we loaded everything and headed back to the kennels. The hunt lasted 1 1/2 hours and we were back at the house by 10 AM. Here is a picture of the first sow that headed into the peanuts.
