I'd like to do a pig DAY hunt at big Woods on the Trinity. Anyone have any hunting experience good or bad with these folks for hogs? CB

You might want to post this on the Texas Hunting Forum. There's a wealth of local knowledge on the THF.

Friend went there a few years ago. Said it was totally disorganized. Nice folks but totally disorganized. Guides were local guys moonlighting on the weekend. They never knew who was showing up till they did.

I've been trying to contact them for over a month. Clearly the web site doesn't tell the real story!

Big Woods is about a hour from me, I have hunted it a good number of times. Dr McFarland, a cardiologist is the owner, he is an avid duck hunter so a good deal of emphasis is on that as well as the deer hunting. To me the pig hunting is a sideline for them. I have found them very easy to work with when they get to know you, I have friends that go there when it is not deer season and they arrange guides for night hunting and spotlighting for pigs, yes that is legal in Texas and the pigs along the river bottom there get large and smart so when we go we do sit on stands early and late but 90 % of our success comes from after dark hunting. You have to be quick targeting and shooting the hogs to be successful. They don't hang around and let you get comfortable for the shot, the light hits them you got a couple of seconds to get the shot off. Any specific details you can send me a private message. We usually go in Feb., after their deer hunters are done.

I own some property about 4-5 miles west on Big Woods off 287. A lot of pigs in that area. You could probably bag more pigs with your bumper driving down 287 at night.
Interesting that the area being within 120 miles of Dallas commands almost $10/acre for a lease. Few deer get bigger than 130's in the area and the hunter density is way to high.
But the pig hunting is great! Rifle or car bumper…
