This image was on a game cam near my home. There appear to be piglets from 2 separate litters in the photo. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

My wife and I found out, that if you will take those piglets when they will dress out to about 3 pounds, and cut them up into about 10 pieces, coat them with seasoned flour and chicken fry them, They Are Deee-Licious. Even the rocks don't last forever.

You just had to go and mention that.... You REALLY have my taste buds working overtime right now. That does sound very good. Add a batch of garlic mashed potatoes and cream gravy and I'm in heaven. Maybe I'll go out just before dark today and put a trap where I've seen 'em. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

Best little piggie I ever had was one that dressed 7 lbs. Put him in the smoker over a load of good blackjack oak, and in about 6 hours--Yum. Nothing left after 4 of us got finished except bones and the smell on our fingers. I can see how those "fryer sized" piglets would be great cooked like that. I have a question Bobby. What did you use for bait with that trail cam?

I put out about 3-4 pounds of fermented corn. I knew they were coming through but wanted to stop them long enough to see what exactly was in the herd. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

You are welcome. I should have added that you can ferment corn any way you choose, but cheap beer certainly does work. Adding a few packages of strawberry or raspebrry jello (generic here is 5 for $1) adds to its appeal. Bobby about the jello do you prepare the jello as if you were going to eat ,it or just pour the packets on the corn?

I just pour it on the corn and let the beer dissolve it. In the summer, you can skip the beer and use yeast and water. Cover the container and let it sit a few days until it is "ripe." Vanilla also gets their attention. If the truth be told, anything that's strongly-sweet smelling will bring them in. If you want to try something different, there's a product called Black Gold that REALLY works. It is manufactured just down the road in Hallettsville, TX by the Weiser family, and everyone who tries it swears by it. Its odor is unique; it is neither sweet nor soured. Simply pour it over a stump and wait for the action to happen. They'll return time and again. I like to take a length of old rope, secure several loops around a stump and then pour Black Gold over it. I've taken a number of hogs this way, including some impressive boars. They return to rub against it for several weeks -- unless, of course, they wind up in the freezer. Larry- That is GREAT advice. Hogs are extremely destructive and quite the nuisance. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri
