I got this e mail today.

Many animal advocates are calling for a ban on wild hog-dog fights. These events force hogs and dogs to fight each other, which can result in injury or death of both animals.

The Humane Society of the United States and the Animal Rights Foundation say that although animal fighting is illegal in Florida, the law does not apply to wild hog-dog fights that are started in rural, unenclosed areas by humans.

Fara from Florida started a petition calling on the Florida legislature to ban wild hog-dog fights in the wild. If you agree that the hogs and dogs need protection, please sign and share Fara’s petition today.

I had been wondering when that was going to rear its head.

Larry, I'm guessing they are just trying to outlaw hog hunting with dogs?

never heard of anyone just taking their dogs out into the woods to "fight" with hogs.

There have been catch dog competitions where penned hogs are caught by catch dogs. Some animal rights people dislike them. Not sure if that is what they had in mind.

It won't fly in Texas, that is all privately owned land except for a few draw hunts on state land..and some of that has a trespass fee and no trespassing, by a rancher in front of it.

Most dog hunters take them alive, and sell them thru the sale barn, whats the problem with that? Some bitty or light in the shorts Bumstead sitting in their Ivory tower needs to find a real job and do their homework..It won't fly, its a falicy..

Hunting hogs with dogs can be a sporting outing.

The Boars Nest in OK provides this for their "trophy" boars (300 pounds + ) and I have been a couple times and plan to go again this coming winter.

For what it is worth, the hogs often get in some good licks before being treed. Of course the handlers are ready to patch up the hounds PDQ.
