First hog Smiler

25-06 at appx 75 yards. Hog was DOIT (Dead On Its Trotters) but still ran about 30 yds straight at the light. That, and the guy behind me saying very calmly 'yep, he is coming to get you' got my pulse up a bit.

Lots of fun. Too bad it was the only hog we had a shot at that trip.

BTW, the 117 gr Sierra Game King came completely apart but only after breaking the near-side shoulder. There was an exit wound on the off-side, but I found the jacket just under the skin. I guess at least some of the lead made it all the way through. Dead is Dead Smiler





I'm 6'5" and about 290 lbs so you can guess the hog's weight. We didn't weigh him.

The red was added after I shot him.

In the spotlight he looked like a tumbleweed. Since no one else in the truck was brave enough to face down a feral tumbleweed, I was the only one ready to shoot when he turned into a hog.
