Texas Hog Hunt

Bob in TXTexas Hog Hunt
One of my buddies put together a hunt for six of us up in Menard, Texas to thin out some hogs on a friends ranch. It is a family ranch, not a hunting ranch.
We managed to put some pork in the freezer.
Here is where I set up Saturday night.
I took a nice sow just before sundown. I had six hogs come in, three the size of the one I shot and three smaller ones. About a half hour after sundown I heard a hog in the trees to my right. I got up and slipped closer so I could see inside the tree line. At this point I was very glad for the bright moon. I was able to get my Sightron SII 3-9x40 on his head and drop him by moonlight!! My trusty 7mm-08 with the 140 gr. TSX's did their usual good job. Both hogs dropped in their tracks. I made head shots on both of them.

Charles_HelmNicely done!
I have no interest in running into the big spiders, though!

Harold R. StephensThanks Bob for you and your friends getting rid of a few more hogs. It doesn't hurt that they eat well too.
This year down in south Texas, if you have to get into the brush you needed to carry a stick to wipe the spider webs from in front of you or else you had spiders crawling all over you and some of them bite.

GautiA club on 7mm STW ? Tell me more, please.
I had the first one in this country ordered for me a few years ago and have used it for caribou here in Iceland as well as moose and boar in Belarus. Ever since Layne Simpson introduced it in ST i was interested. I had the good fortune to hunt in Texas for the first time this year with a friend and came across a few of these spiders. After having one crawling on my shoulder I was grateful for my countries cold weather and total lack of these critters !

Bob in TXHey Gauti,
Welcome!! I am sure Stretch will fill you in about the "club". You should post the details of your Texas hunt. I used my 7mm STW this year on a pronghorn hunt in the Texas panhandle. The shot ended up being 292 yards.
Good Hunting,
Bob
This is one of our little spiders we came across on that hunt.

Gauti, The 7mm STW club is a moniker I added to my signature because of my fondness of this fine caliber. There is a group of shooters of the 45-70 caliber called the band of 45-70'ers.
I only found it fitting to start the club and all you have to do to join is shoot a 7MM STW and include the club membership in your signature if you like. If time will allow in the future I will try and get a web site up, but for now work is getting in the way of my hobbies. Lets hear about your Texas hunt, just start a new thread.
