Im going hunting for wild boar and I already have a shoulder mount so I was thinking a rug would be cool. Anyone have any pictures of theres? Should I go flat head or raised head? And what is the average cost of this?

I know someone who has a rug, and the head was raised. Looks very cool!

Yes, the European Wild Boar (Sus Scrofa) make great rugs and I've "Cherry-Picked" the best I've shot for Rugs; all nice thick winter coats; a solid black very large Sow (Miss Piggy) and a cinnamon Phase are especialy noteworthy among them - they look well, Ugh, Cool!

You can invest as much or as little into them as you wish and quite frankly the "stiff as a board" seem to hold the floors better than having the skin worked soft. I've had so many I never bothered with a felt backing either; as they say in Africa a "Flat Skin" - does the job just fine.

Like all other skins if they are in trafficed areas the bristles will eventually start to fall out but it takes alot of foot traffic to wear a bald spot in one. Only complaint you're gonna get about the bristles is that they don't go up Mrs. Steel's vacuum cleaner nozzle easily.

shocker

The nice "Bart" bristles on the neck, fullness (winter phase) and the coloring are the criteria I use to select "rugs".

I've never had the head done as I don't have enough area to be able to step around the heads in my small Trophy Room because it's "stuffed" with hunting treasures.

Net, I've had the hooves left on (looks Cool) but the ears and the hooves only take several month's worth of trodding upon (or tripping over) until they separate, so IMO if it's goona be a rug the ears get sewn down and without hooves (I don't leave alot of leg on them either - they are trimmed accordingly) unless you've got the space to put them in a spot where they will not be trodden upon.

I give them to my Taxidermist after skinning and they cost about $120.00-$150.00 depending on who's doing the work for me; not a huge investment in the Grand Scheme of Trophy prep.
