Visited my mom over the Christmas holidays and was pleasantly surprised by the head mount of a hog I shot a year and a half ago in Missouri. Waited a while for it, but the wait was definitely worth it. The taxidermist did a fine job in my opinion. Now, can anyone suggest to me how I can post photos of the mount? It seems to be beyond my computer skills (which doesn't say a whole lot!). Thanks in advance.

Look at the post under Hunting Reports-Africa, How to Post Pictures by T. Carr. It walks you all they thru the process and is pretty easy. Thanks to T. Carr or I would have never figured it out.

Rattlesnaker -- yeah I do have some photos off it when I shot it. I took it with my .416 Rem Mag with a 400 grn Hawk Deadsoft bullet. Took both lungs, shredded the heart, blew a fist sized hole exiting and the hog still went 50 yards into the forrest -- tough bugger! The pics I have aren't that good as I shot them at night (took him just as the sun went down). He weighed just over 200 pounds -- not the biggest I've seen or shot, but a really nice hog. And before someone comments, he did have a broken cutter........

Nice hog, I like the color.

Not to highjack this thread but how well do you like the Hawk .416 bullets? Do you typically get results like this with them?

NBHunter, I had good luck with them in .416 caliber. I tried them in .458 in my Lott, and I wasn't too happy. Well, I shot a hog with my Lott and it opened up to a very large diameter which wasn't the problem save for massive internal damage, but there was another hog behind it that was taken out as well. By the time the bullet reached the other piggy, it was just a jacket without any lead. Still a fairly large and heavy jacket that broke the spine of hog number two. Okay, I concede that it was a two-for-one, but a good bullet shouldn't come apart like that IMHO. I chronographed those loads and they were only doing about 2100 fps. I just think they might be a bit too soft. I am rethinking my use of them. The Lott already has a big diameter, so a bullet that expands radically just isn't necessary IMHO. Granted, the hogs I've shot with Hawk Deadsoft in .416 worked pretty well. I think a bullet with a bit tougher construction might be a bit better particularly when it hits bone.

Good boar.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

Thanks Ryan. He was an 11th hour trophy. I was on my last day of the hunt, the sun had gone down and I was getting ready to pack it in when he showed up. Couldn't tell how big he was in the faded light, but I really didn't care!

Where did you hunt and who did the mount ? I've got one that looks almost exactly like that that I shot near Bismark, Mo. I have many head and body mounts and My hog catches more attention than anything else. I've very pround of the hog and mount. I don't how to post pictures either and I have one I would like to put on the forum.

hard luck -- took that hog in Fayette, MO at Cedar Ridge (www.cedarridgehunting.com). The taxidermist was Crossed Arrows Taxidermy Studio in Milan, MO (660/445-2166) -- ask for Jackie. My local gun shop in California has it on their wall for the time being.
