Just thought I'd give you a little story. I had the quickest hog hunt of my entire life tonight!! Me and a few buddies are hunting on this little place outside Huntsville that a friend lives on. It's only 15 acres, but it's next door to a 900+ acre place that's all timber and it's FULL of pigs. We started baiting the place last week. I just started using this stuff called "Pig Out" by Evolved Habitats. Yall have got to get some.....it's like magic!! haha. I got it at Academy for $6.99. It's a liquid that comes in a one gallon jug. You mix 1/4 of the jug with 25 lbs. of corn in a 5 gallon bucket and then shake out the corn in the area you want to hunt/trap.

Well anyways.....I put 25 lbs. out around 6:00 this evening and then we went back to the house to eat some tamales before we went out. We walked back out to the ground blind (which we built out of cattle panels, camo netting, and brush) at about 7:15.....30 minutes after dark. The moon was half full and it was pretty clear, and my beloved Zeiss scope gathers light like a dream so I don't need a light!! We didn't even get our chairs set up and a herd of about a dozen pigs came RUNNING in to this stuff. We weren't even in the blind 30 seconds.....so I picked out the biggest one and shot it behind the ear with my .300 WSM (big mess). Nothing special.....just a 100 lb. sow, but it was unbelievable how fast it all happened. They go nuts over this stuff!! You really need to try it out. Here's a couple pictures too. Hope yall enjoy.

Another thing that works like a charm,particularly on the older boars, is Black Gold. It is made just down the road from me in Hallettsville, TX, -- and its results have been pretty amazing.

I like to soak a length of old rope with it and then wrap it around a tree trunk or fence post. They will rub against it repeatedly and come back daily -- sometimes several times per day -- to do the same thing again.

My favorite hog bait is corn soaked in cheap beer and strawberry jello. Let it sour for a week and then dig a hole with post hole diggers and fill the hole up. They love it

My last lease was pretty overrun with hogs, and I recall at least 3 "quickie" hunts. One trip down, I drove up to the cabin at mid-day, and looked at the "camp feeder" which was about 100 yds from the cabin--lo and behold there was a hog under the feeder--at noon. Took me longer to drive to the dead hog than the amount of time I'd been on the ranch.

Second one--drove up to the cabin and when I got out, I heard 'em squealing at the small tank in the east pasture (about 150 yds from the cabin). Strapped on my snake gun, picked up my 77-22, and sneaked to the tank. Eased up to the big mesquite tree and watched for a while--they looked like miniature hippos in the muddy water. When the pig of choice got out of the water and walked to the top of the tank dam, a .22 LR behind the ear at 30 yds did the deed. Took me longer to get him out of the water (rolled down the tank dam into the muddy water after the shot) than it did to sneak to the tank.

Third time (and 4th and 5th, and . . . )-parked the truck at the usual place, grabbed my pack, rifle, and small cooler (it's HOT in south Tx in July) and started to the blind. Turned the corner and looked down the sendero at the blind, and there was the "right" pig in the road. Eased over to the tree, took a solid rest, and bang (Pop, boom, etc) and the pig was in the dirt. Never made it to the blind.

So, if it sounds like killing a pig on the place was easy, it was--after the first year. Gee, I miss that place.
