Ok now, would a .410 slug (the 1/5 oz) work for smaller hogs or javelinas? Anyone have experience with these rounds or piggies? IM curious because im going hunting for other birds with a 410 but would encounted hogs, and wondering IF it would do the trick?

Never hunted hogs but have hunted javelina. Pretty sure the 410 would kill one easily just have to hit um right.

Also, if you check the ballistics of a .410 slug you will find that the .357 is more powerful. Up close with good placement, it might be OK. But I am not sure why you would use it?

If you are looking for challenge then why not a single shot pistol? A 44 mag will do the job nicely.

I would not think that the soft lead slug from a .410 would penetrate all that much. But I will bow ot those that have done it, if there are any onboard.

Never tried to use one on a hog BUT I did try one on a forked horn Blacktail once and a friend had to finish it off with his .30-30. Get a bigger gun. Lawdog

...isn't the .410 slug a 1/5oz slug? Doesn't that figure out to 87.5 gr? I've always wondered about that.... that is not much lead at all.... about like a .380 pistol... I'm sure it's traveling a little faster than a .380, but at 41 caliber has a terrible sectional density... and soft lead to boot?? I can't think of any reason to try to shoot a hog with that... I might try it with a 20ga slug, but that would be as small as I would go, shotgun-wise.
