I am considering a 6.8 in a short barrel AR setup for the kids on hogs and would like to hear from others. Any experience/testimonials on the use of the round on hogs?

I haven't seen one used on hogs yet, but would sure be leery of that light weight 115 grain bullet for general hunting.

Don't see a thing wrong with the 6.8 for hogs. Just pick a properly constructed bullet and kill a few

Bullet choice is the secound most important part of the terminal equation right after shot location

The standard wieght in .277 diameter has always been 130 grains. 15 grains less sure ain't no deal breaker

Bill Wilson did extensive testing before Wilson Combat brought out their 6.8 SPC. He and his family and coworkers killed a bunch of pigs with one.

The favorite bullet is likely to be the new 95 grain TSX.

Like anything else, you use it within its limitations.

Go to 68Forums for lots of info.

Wilson is doing some work with the 30RAR now -- would be interesting to see if he brings out an upper for that round.

Thinking of getting an upper for my AR for deer and pigs too. What rate of twist?

Get a SPC II Chamber. Most recommend 1-11 twist for the hottest loads. I have an LWRC which is 1-10 but they give thumbs up to the tac loads. Not sure all makers will do the same. Make your own decisions.

SSA says 1-10 or slower.

Just one recent twist thread at 68Forums.

I am impressed as can be with the 6.8 SPC II. Built an 18" SPC on a mid gassed White Oak Armaments 1:11 bbl. Has a YHM light rail floating forearm. Way better than 1 MOA!

Liked it so much I built a 16" with an ARP SPC II 1:11 mid gassed bbl ... it also shoots very, very well.

Great cartridge and the AR is a great platform for the cartridge!

Am going to have the chamber on my 300/221 redone by the original maker to 300 AAC Blackout simply to allow it to use factory ammo.

Haven't had a chance to use it against piggies yet. WIll wait until the can transfer clears the Fed. My buddy with the little ranch in Texas has NV gear. It should really be fun to try night hunting with a suppressed rifle!
