For those of you who don't know....Southern Monterey County is the pig hunting capital of California. I connected on a nice 200ish lb boar reddish with a white stripe last night and my buddy Roger Wong a 180ish lb solid black sow. Both were weighed on a scale. Only one pic that I will post later on that came out. Shots were at last light. We were hunting with Kyler Hamann as always a great time with lots of laughs and cutting up. Roger and I were both shooting 308s me 180 grn TSXs over 44.7 grns AA2520 (I get an honest 2650 with this loads and its an honest 1"-1 1/8 grouper). This is my one load for everything in the lower 48. Roger was using 168 grn TSXs over 4350...pics and more story to follow but just thought I would tease a little... Both pigs were taken in tall barley and shot off of sticks African style. We had two good stalks as each shot was probably only 75 yards if not less. Good wind and we just snuck up on em. Kyler kept stalking closer and closer and pretty soon I thought I was going to "affix bayonets". Although, Kyler has a very good point...so many problems just go away between 125 yds and 75 yds. Roger got his first, 1 shot bang flop (more on that in a minute)and since were in the middle of the barley field we just decided to wait and within about 15 minutes a group of another 4 pigs came in and I took my boar. Roger's animal was quartering too and his shot was a little far forward, as in...the head, and stopped under the skin behind the off side front leg. Like I said bang flop. Mine was also quartering and I hit a little farther back then I like but it tore up the on side lung, the liver, and the spleen. Good loud thwack and the pig hunkered down then bolted about 75 yards and exited the barley field down into a creek bottom and was TU in the bottom of the creek bed Roger's sow... Mike- Congrats! I will anxiously await the details. Some day I hope to hunt a California piggie with Kyler. I have heard nothing but the highest praise for him. We've dealt on the classifieds a couple years back, but some day I am going to have to book a hunt with his outfit. And hey, that will give me a good excuse to get a new Contender barrel suited for those California hogs... Bobby, You want to come out and hunt let me know. Fly into SFO, San Jose, or Oakland and I'll pick you up and chauffeur you down to Parkfield. Your 7mm Bulberry would be just fine. But hey, you need to bring one each of all your wildcats as one of the ranchers is a cartridge collector. Mike Legistine actu? Quid scripsi? Looks like a good time was had by everyone except the porkers. Hence the saying, pigs get fat but hogs get slaughtered. GWB

Mike- That's an incredibly generous offer. Once I get my health situation in better shape, I am going to have to take you up on that offer. As you know, I am fond of those Contenders. I guess I'd just have to decide which one I wanted to take along as lately I have been splitting time between the 20" 7mm Bullberry and the 26" 6.5 BB Improved (MGM barrel). Thanks to Kyler I have a freezer and a half full of sausage.... Looks like a need to find something else to shoot for a while, maybe Elk, they may have less meet than two 200+ pounders!

Mike, You're too kind. I know I've sent you home WITHOUT pigs too many times over the years, but we got lucky and had a few cooperate yesterday. Both of you shot well and that makes things much easier. Good time hunting with you as always. Thanks, Kyler
