Not much to say on this one. About 30 minutes after sundown, I went to sit outside for a while with hopes another hog may surface. It was a scorcher today, so I was hoping that meant the hogs would be up and about a little earlier in search of a cool wallow. I would have liked to be outside aeven earlier, but my vascular issues had me coughing much of the afternoon, but it had subsided by late evening -- and the few remains "coughs" left in me were directed into a wadded-up tee shirt to help muffle the sound. I'm not certain that helped, but the area wildlife didn't really seem to mind.

Deer kept me entertained. Trees and landmarks began to fade away into the night, but with the very last bit of available twilight, a large blob materialized to my left. I swapped out the binoculars for the .300 Savage and took a look through the Docter Unipoint 3-12x56. It was a hog, alright -- and it appeared to be a good one, too.

His movement through the sections of tall grass was affording precious little in the way of ethical opportunity, but all of a sudden, he decided to stop directly downwind of a strategically-placed cotton ball soaked in Tink's Power Pig.

The boar was approximately 170 yards away and slightly quartering away when the illuminated dot of the Docter scope settled on the vitals. I touched off a shot, recovered after the slight recoil and saw the hog on its side and apparently out for the count.

The 125 grain Ballistic Tip, launched at a sedate 2740 fps from the 24" DVH Custom .300 Savage barrel, centered the shoulder (you can see the impact in the photo), wrecked the lungs and exited just ahead of the opposite shoulder. The exit was barely the size of a dime.

Bobby do you find that the "pig scents" work? I have tried several when things get slow but no real proof that they do anything.

The ones to work for me are Tink's Power Pig and Code Blue Sow in Heat urine. I usually set up 3 cotton balls soaked in it. I have a string attached to each and hang them 4-5 feet off the ground. They are usually placed 30-50 yards apart.

When you can find it, the Buck Bomb fruit punch aerosol fogger really does seem to help. They also have a Sow in Estrus fogger.

Of course, if the wind shifts on you at the last minute, as has happened to me far too many times, it's just wasted $$. Smiler
