Been trapping and shooting hogs on a place for about 6-8 years and this year it is "different" -- of the 27 I've taken since Jan 1st, all but 3 have been boars. At my other place, same situation--9 hogs killed and only one sow.

At the first place, cameras show mixed sounders, age- and sex-wise, but as I stated, all I've trapped or shot are boars for the most part. At the second place, I doubt I've had 5 pics of mixed sounders since the first of the year, but boar after boar after boar.

Not complaining, just makes me scratch my head.

Only theory I can come up with is that the boars are more eager/aggressive to get to the corn and the sows hang back a bit, thus I trap the boars.

Any other thoughts?

What are the average weights?

I was hunting in South Texas this year -- pulled into a field with lots of pigs --the first ones to leave were lead out of danger by the females with piglets.
I assumed the rest that stayed were boars -- the one I shot turned out to be a nice fat dry female. 35 Whelen D R T
I am guessing that the mommies are more careful with their kids.
She must have had a warning squeal/noise to gather up the little ones and boogie

Wyoming--the ones I've shot, either with bow or rifle, have been 110-250 lbs, with the average being around 140-150. The ones I've trapped are smaller shoats, 40-60 lbs.

I was having the same conversation last night, I am killing only boars. Very few sows around the feeder. Last few months have been big lone boars.

We have seen more sows and youngsters than boars this year. The ones we have killed have all been sows.

I trapped 4 last night, 3 boars, 1 sow. Weights ranged from 85 pounds up to 112 pounds. There is so much in known information concerning feral hogs that No One can accurately predict what they will see in the field.
