6.5 BB IMP takes another Texas piggie

Bobby Tomek6.5 BB IMP takes another Texas piggie
I was working late and needed to revive myself, and there's no better way than taking a light, one of my Contenders and shooting sticks and going for a late night stroll.
I happened upon this medium-sized sow, and my Contender with its 26" MGM barrel in 6.5 BB IMP took another piggie. Performance of the 130 grain Accubond was exceptional.
I see pork chops in my immediate dining future...

WhitworthYou never cease to amaze, Bobby.......or make me envious for that matter!

Nice work! Must be nice to be able to "go for a walk" whenever the impulse strikes. Damn, I need to move to Texas........

DesertRamVery nice pig and rifle.
I notice that you have your shell carrier pushed well forward onto your rifle's pistol grip. Do you hunt it that way, or has it just moved? Does it not interfere with good hand placement and a secure grip?

Bobby TomekThanks, guys. Hog hunting sure is entertaining if nothing else...

GWB- The stock set is from highplainsgunstocks.com. Got it about a month ago. I think I already posted a picture of another piggie with this set but I may be having CRS...

As much as I love my Monarchs, I have nothing but the highest praise for that Conquest.
DesertRam-
You are going to laugh about the shell holder. I got a big splotch of blood on the stock, so I slid the cloth carrier forward to soak it up. I then forgot about it being that way in the photo. I didn't spend much time on tjh picture as it was pretty warm, and I needed to get that piggie on ice.
By the way, I DID remember to wash the carrier...

SIR MAUSEROther modern single-shot rifles don't appeal to me - different strokes, but that laminated wood, huge pistol grip, & high cheek piece really looks cool.

dwheelsVery nice looking combination Bobby, It looks like it's functional also. What is the barrel length? The whole rig looks as though it balances nicely. DW

Hog KillerWay to go Bobby!
I just love kill'n sows, cause when you kill one, you have killed Hundreds. When you kill a boar, you have just killed one pig.
Sows are good to eat at about any size too.

KabluewyYou sure are inspirational with the Thompson single shot. I have an Encore with a custom 7x65R barrel that I have shot very little, and its never been hunting. I like the looks of it and the feel, and I should just use it. Should be deadly on the Texas hogs, or maybe back home Georgia hogs too.

Bobby Tomekdwheels-
The barrel is a 1:8, 26-incher from Match Grade Machine, and it does balance nicely -- about the same as a 21-22-inch bolt rifle.
My 20 1/8th" 7mm Bullberry balances even better. Here are a couple shots of it:

Mike_DettorreYou know if it is one thing I can't stand is a guy who is a real hunter...
Single shot rifle, moderate velocity, appropriate weight for caliber slug...stalks his game on foot...shots under 100 yds
What an *ssh*le

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

LorenzoMan, you and all those single shot 6,5 mm are pig's worst nightmare..

Between you and that other guy "dustoffer" are keeping pigs numbers low up there while I am the laughing stock of my local pig population down here...
