If there is a more appropriate forum for this I ask mods to please move.

I am choosing this forum to say good bye to my friend Invader66 because I met him while pig hunting.

I enjoyed his stories and his demeanor.

I only got to hunt with Gene a few times, but miss him already. I won't be able to kill a pig ever again without thinking about the hunts we shared. I wish I had stayed up later and listened to more of his stories.

I invite those with whom he hunted, broke bread, or drank beer around the campfire to share their experiences as we honor our fallen brother.

Andy

What a shame. Gene booked a hunt to Botswana with me last year. Shortly thereafter he was hospitalized. When I did finally get in touch with him, you could tell he was sick. He kept telling himself that he was going to get better and he was going hunting!

I can't say I knew him. But I can say he treated me and Clive with respect. When he finally made the decision that he could not to go, he was extremely apologetic, as if he had done something inconsiderate. Only a true gentleman can feel that way and make sincere apologies for things out of his control. It was his lifelong dream to hunt Africa. He got his passport just for this trip. It saddens me that he never made it.

He said something very funny to me which I will share. After he got out of the hospital, he said, "Been fighting Asian flu with Mexican tequila ... not sure who is winning."

Reading his last emails to me just now, makes me very sad. I liked Gene.

Rest in peace Gene.

Gene was one-of-a-kind, tough but with a gentle side, a Marine sniper who saw alot of action in Viet Nam and was seriously wounded. One of the original "band of bubbas", he lost a short bout with esophageal cancer. He attended most of the Houston-area big-bore events as well as annual hunts to South Texas.

This was sent to me today by a young man who met Gene once on a Bubbas pig hunt. Gene was one person that people could meet once and never forget. RIP Gene.
