Thanks John, the mount will really come together when the hide is on and then you will see some "magic"!

As far as brain shots on a broadside head shot exactly between the eye and the base of the ear will be a direct centered brain shot. Head on shots: if you make an "X" from each eye to each opposite ear and hit the intersection of that "X" you will have a direct center brian hit as well. HEad on is tough to make properly from ground level. The head of a true wild boar is nearly flat and almost parallel to the ground. Bullets tnd to be glancing rather then penetrating. The nature of the hide in the area is also quite thick because of the evolution that has followed wild hogs that root and push through the brush with their heads to get through briars and thorn bush.

A head on hog shot can be difficult for a first time hog hunter. On the side on shot to the head it's easy. Hogs have very little visible neck. That makes distinguishing anatomy difficult for some folks. Especially in a quick moment of a visibale opportunity on a fleeing hog. I will post photo's of actual hog anatomy before this year is up. I have several hog hunts scheduled.

I'll have more next week. I dropped one of the eyes and chipped it. I now had to order a replacement pair! This will delay my progress a bit.

I can suggest once the hide is back from tanning thin the lips paper thin, get as much eyelid skin peeled back for the tuck around the eyes, and do the nose the same way. Are you using body filler in the ears or earliners? I am using laminated paper earliners on this boar but my last mount was with autobody filler. It's also nice to soak up the skin by getting it damp and letting it sweat in a plastic bag for a few hours. Then hang it to drip dry. Once it's drip dry it's much nicer to work on for thinning detail areas. like the lips eyelids and nose cartilage. When your done you can bag it and freeze it so it's ready to mount when the manniken is complete. I'm as anxious as anyone to get this finished but I dropped that eye and screwed up my progress!
