. I mentioned before that we have taken on a new shoot - part of which is 350 h of new ground. New to us that is. We started baiting on a couple of spots and we rebuilt and tidied up the high seats and Kanzeln in the concession. One Kanzel in particular took my fancy! In a wooded area with a lot of swamp-like small water pools, dark and cool. We started baiting and painted up a couple of old trees with molasses as rubbing trees. The bait was taken by pigs three nights ago and yesterday I decided to give it a go with my youngest son who passed his German hunter's exams last year in June. We got to the Kanzel at 19h25 and set ourselves up. There were plenty of roe buck signs around the stand - saplings horned to shreads and cleared patches or earth around the bases. Being a weekday, I quietly hoped that if the pigs would come in that it would be earlier rather than later. I was not good for an all nighter! My son test sighted the .275 Rigby and chambered a round on safe and we began our wait, whispering the occasional sentence to one another. He tapped my leg and mouthed "pig"! It was 20h10 and broad daylight still ! We both clearly saw a wild boar skirting the edge of the clearing - an 80 meter lane in the woods with the Kanzel at the West end and three or four baited holes / digs covered with wooden stumps at the other end. We waited and watched. The pig came out the cover and then skitted back into the trees, only to come back out after a minute or so. On the third appearance we had him identified as a young, solo Keiler and as he shoved a log away from the buried maize with his snout, my son executed a perfect shoulder shot and the young Keiler dropped to the shot, kicking hard - hit cleanly through both lungs with the Hornady exiting his left side! A daylight first pig taken by my son off of a new Kanzel / bait! He was thrilled! After pictures, we loaded the Keiler into the Landrover and drove back to the farm / base where we gutted him and weighed him at 41 kgs dressed. Hopefully the first of many for my son and hopefully the first of many from the new Kanzel! Cheers, Charlie . "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

Great job for both of you. Lots more trips, sits, and stories to come. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"
