I have shot a number of hogs with a 338 Win Mag and have had good success with several loads.

I used to shoot them with nothing but the good old Sierra 250 grain boat tail spitzer. It really puts them on the ground. I have since shot a couple with the 225 Nosler Partition, also with good results.

Just kind of to see how it would do, I have shot several now with the 200 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. It has worked quite well. That particular Ballistic Tip has a rather thick jacket and it works well on game.

I have never recovered a .338 caliber bullet from a hog except for one 225 Partition that we found in a hog that I shot in the back of the head as he charged me and was looking to chomp on my leg. That hog was wounded by someone else and was pissed off! He surprised me in some high grass and was right on me chomping those teeth. I just looked down the side of the barrel and let go. The shot killed the hog but he still ran into me and we both tumbled down a steep hill for a ways.

I have seen other people shoot hogs with .338 Win Mags and .340 Weatherbys. About the only bullet I have seen used that did not do too well was a 225 Speer boat tail that came apart pretty badly. It killed the hog but the meat damage was awfull and there were just pieces of bullet here and there.

I have used my 338 Win Mag, 225 grain TBBC, Federal Premium Hi-Energy ammo on feral hog and it works. It was around 250 pounds, 140 yards, the bullet went straight through him and he went straight down. This rifle is my favorite for hunting game with four legs.
