"Feral hogs out in the day - please shoot some while here." With this invitation, who could resist being the first exotic hunters to stay in the brand- new lodge (Texans call it a cabin) on this 5,000 acre, formerly Family-only hunting ground? https://yoschreiner.com/ This was a business trip for Mike Rintaul of Grizzly Cartridge and Josef Riekers of Action Outdoors Adventures, so I tagged along just for the fun of it and to explore the ranch for possible future outings. Keeping this story brief: The ranch is family owned and guided - they grew up hunting the ranch. The lodge is new and beds and mattresses were installed the weekend before we arrived. The ranch has many different types of exotics and they are plentiful. There are so many hogs that boars and sows are seen in the daylight and often present a challenging running shot ( I nailed two sows on the run, one at 40 yards and one at 100 yards). Joe and Mike focused on red deer and Sika deer they both scored, Joe with a muzzle loader and Mike with a 10 MM pistol and new bullets that he was testing. Yes, I plan to return and Joe has already referred other exotic hunters to the Schreiners. BTW, there are some record class Axis bulls on the place and they are less spooky than the Axis females. Oh, I forgot to mention the place is crawling with native white tailed deer. You can buy hunting licenses at the Walmart in nearby Kerrville. The brothers offered to take pix of my dead pigs and I politely demurred, as I shoot so many hogs that pix are rarely taken. They did take a group picture in front of the cabin porch, and I will add if and when I get it. The YO has been around for a while, they were one of the first ranches in Texas to offer ecoyic hunting. Do not remember what happened but in the mid to late 90's early 2000's they had some problems and sold off some of their property or tried too. Really is a pretty part of Texas. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Crazy, You are right about pretty. The range is in great condition with all types of grass and flowers. Wild turkey running all over the place and even a Mexican eagle or two - have not seen one of those for a while. Naturally, the usual complement of vultures soaring about ready to pounce on any available meal. Other hunters told me that my first pig was buzzard bites within an hour after we dragged it into some bushes. Scissor tails and Bobwhite quail! That takes me back to childhood days. Back in the mid 90's when I was teaching Hunter Ed in the TP&W Program I had the chance to spend almost 3 days at the YO, at an instructors In-Service workshop on Survival and First Aid. I will cherish those memories as long as I live. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Understood and this was not my first visit to the YO. Some years back, the Dallas Woods and Waters Club (DWWC) had a weekend outing there. If I remember correctly, we stayed in the YO Hotel in Kerrville and drove to the ranch headquarters to meet up with tour guides. We also took the exotic game tour in a school bus and saw a lot of African game, including giraffes. It seems that that exotic animal tour is still an attraction at the YO Ranch Headquarters - http://yoranchheadquarters.com/ NRA Life Benefactor Member, DRSS, DWWC, Whittington Center,Android Reloading Ballistics App at http://www.xplat.net/

We stayed in a group bunkhouse on the ranch one night and the second night we had done a hike and had to build our individual shelters/cook our suppers and spend the night in the pasture. Then we went on the school bus tour that next morning. We did another In-Service on another date at the Kerr WMA and set thru a class on how to age deer on the hoof in the field. Just driving down thev highway between the Kerr and the YO a person can see a lot of game possibly/probably more Exotics than native. Even the rocks don't last forever.
