I'M CURRENTLY ON A LEASE IN EAST TEXAS CLOSE TO THE LOUISIANA BORDER. WE WERE TOLD WHEN WE GOT ON THAT WE HAD A BAD HOG PROBLEM. MY THOUGHTS WERE " I'VE SEEN THEM BAD BEFORE. CAN'T BE AS BAD AS THEIR MAKING IT OUT TO BE".

I WAS TOLD BY OUR LEASING MANAGER THAT BETWEEN OUR TWO PROPERTIES WE HAVE PUT 65 HOGS ON THE GROUND IN TWO MONTHS. BETWEEN ALL THE TRAPPING AND SHOOTING WE HAVE PUT A SUCCESSFUL DENT IN THEM, BUT WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO . PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. SEE BELOW...

Why are you shooting pictures and not
popping caps at 'em?

Can't kill many with a camera.

Thanks for sharing your problem with us.
We're sympathetic as can be.

One of those remote control round expensive traps would help. You would need someone to pick them up or shoot and drag them away though. That's is a real problem for sure. Packy

You are in the epicenter of feral hogs. The weather forecast for Barry may flood that area enough to create floating black blobs for miles around.

Yes indeed! I'm sure there's a lot of folks that would be willing to help you with your hog dilemma. BTW ramrod, do you live around the Austin/ central Texas area? The Sheet metal top of your feeder looks like one of my mfg.

no sir, i live in the houston area. I purchased this feeder from a friend of mine. maybe he purchased the galvanized lid from you? I prefer them, as you do not have to deal with a bolt and screw nut every time
you need to do a refill... Smiler

Like you say, getting rid of them is the real problem. Catch 20 pigs three or four times a month turns into a lot of work and a logistical nightmare.

Kill them and dump them and you are just feeding more pigs......

Pigs come and go with water, food, and hunting pressure. They won't go away but they will adapt. And I have similar pictures but shoot a few and they will start moving at night, run some dogs and they may move next door, for a while. If the water dries up they will move on until it is back.

Water and corn and they will hang around until pushed out.

Take away the feeders and organize some drives.
AR member drive shortly after deer season? I'm in.

Maybe I’m dense, but feeding a former livestock animal and being surprised when they multiply just baffles me.

Why spend so much time and money putting out feed if you don’t want more???

It has been this way in E. Texas for 15 years.
Back 40 yrs. ago I had heard they had tried to introduce some razorback type hogs into the Gus Engling Wildlife refuge.
I have some property probably 10 miles away from this spot and I never saw a wild hog. Always wanted to. Now I regret the day I have ever seen a ferrel hog.
We have some feeders on our property however they are all fenced with cattle panels.
They will destroy a pasture.
Shoot on site! does not matter if I have a 22 short or a 458 in my truck.

My sisters ranch near Klondike, Tx. close to that same area was catchin 150 hogs a nite in a big hog fence trap..sold them at the Saturday sales in that area..easier than killing them and the packers did all the work just for the hogs..dogfood etc..They have taken over much of Texas, mostly in the East..

I hear that. The idea is for some is to draw in the whitetail deer I guess. Happy, well fed hogs are a by-product to some. Crazyhorse's (R.I.P.)employer only hunted trophy deer on his property. Didn't show any concern for hogs. Feeders came on 2X a day.

Can't imagine having to many critters to shoot. Wish I had that problem. An AR pig shoot sounds like a good way to help with your problem.

Ramrod, I added the s/m caps to my production line when I had a buddy (John Turner, a gunsmith in south Austin) ask for some for his feeders . He hunted down in South Texas + was using the split ring 55 gals. drums. When the wets would come by they would tip his feeders over then use the split ring top as a griddle to fry up the corn. He said I never begrudged them something to eat but I got upset with them tracking my feeders. Anyway, he said that even a wet is smart enough not to cook on a galinized surface. He said one time he caught one in the act of trying to tip his feeder + ha placed a round from his 264 at the guys feet. He said that guys feet looked like pinwheels in a cartoon. I was laughing so hard I was afraid to shoot again for fear I would hit him.

Gotta love the piney woods. Even if they are chock full of feral hogs that run off the deer.

Doesn't look like they have gone nocturnal, even in the summer heat and with some hunting pressure. I don't think I have shot a hog in daylight in years. I don't own any night vision gear, though I have Streamlight game lights available for our rifles.

I already have a January hunt lined up for my son & I in the Hill Country, but holler if you would like a hand at knocking over some hogs some other time. Though, in truth, you have enough that investing in MORE traps might be worth your while. And moving them about. And/or hiring a pro with thermal sights. I have family up in the Ozarks trying to clear the land of feral hogs and they trap most, but then get after others with their thermal scopes.

Good luck. I hope you clear enough off and hope you manage a nice white tail this year.
