tcencore I have hunted Bannister WMA many times in the 90's. A hunting pal from Crowley always went with me. We used to stay at a little group of cabins near Broadus on Lake Sam Rayburn.

I hunted there extensively from 96 until 99 (most weekends of the season) and shot two nice (just shy of 120") 8 points there in 96 and 97. We've been doing most of our deer hunting further west these days, but still go to Bannister each year for squirrel hunting, and I'll be back out there a couple of times in Jan/Feb to try to add some more pork chops to the larder. We camp at the hunter camp near the Wilderness, and hunt back along the edges of the deadfalls in the wilderness. Troy

Troy, Just wanted to say that I enjoyed looking at your web site; reading the stories and seeing the photos. Very nicely done. -Bob F.

BFaucett - thanks for the kind words - I'm just glad I've had the opportunities to hunt that I've had, a good wife and daughter to share them with, and I enjoy sharing them here. Troy

Tcencore..those little cat squirells are hard for me to hit, they dont stay put for too long like our fox squirells here. I have hunted them along the Neches river between Palistine and Rusk. BTW, do you cook the heads and all?? Had friends that used to do that, and cracked the skulls. Never tried it. Good luck and good shooting, Eterry

I like the site, like that you use Encores and Contenders, happy that your wife & daughter enjoy going & doing so much and appreciated the memories you brought up concerning San Angelo. I remember seeing quite a few deer and was able to go quail hunting one Saturday. Great stuff for a 19 year old who'd been away from home for over a year! Hope this year is as good for all of you!
