Excellent! So I would still , like deer, line up the vertical cross hair with the leg .And the horizontal 1/4 to 1/2 of body width from the bottom [ for deer center of body ].
mete that's pretty much true on all game animals except some of the antelope who's shoulders are on the front of the chest instead of on the side and their vital organs are right at the front of their chest. Some of the African game is like that as well. It depends on where the shoulders attach to the chest and how the animal runs.
Another place we shoot pigs is 1" behind the ear. This is where we shoot them if we're using something small like a .223, 22/250 or .243. Drops em' like a ROCK !! The little bullets don't do much in the boiler-room
Hello. Interesting anatomy pictures, but they belong to a feral pig, not a wild boar.
Here is a picture that shows the armor wild boars (sus scrofa) have. The consistency of the white grease is like hard teflon and surely a lot harder than the fat on a pig. It has to protect the boars against other males fighting for females, and the tusks are really sharp.
(I am new and don't know if my picture will show)

Cold , some call the 458SOCOM with the AR 15 the perfect pig Gun.....Juan Carlos, the picture shows fine. What is the thickness of the armor ? What slug did you use for the pig ?
Juan Carlos- Texas has lots of feral hogs and a good number of wild boar, some pure Russian blacks. We also see a good number of cross-breeds between the hogs and the boars. It's a real mess. They estimate the population at over 2.5 million in the state. They're really tearing up alot of land. We are very aware of the "shield"
Mete, it is my hand holding the armor on the picture. I measured 2 3/4" using that as a reference. It could be 3" or more in some parts. I shot it with a 12ga. 870, fully rifled barrel, open sights and a Remington Copper Solid Sabot Slug from around 50yds. Lucky neck shot.
CJ, wow that is some population! The farmers in the south of Chile are starting to have the same problem with the local wild boar population; it is quickly coming out of hand.

Am I crazy, but don't the sows have a 'shield' too, albiet not as thick? capt david
"It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." The 30-06 will, with the right bullet, successfully take any game animal in North America up to 300yds. Get closer!

I've shot a number of feral hogs in the past 5 years (probably 50) and I haven't seen any indication of the thickened area over the shoulders (shield) of any of the sows. The bigger boars can be tough to skin, so we hang them from their back legs and skin like a deer until we get to the shield. Then we cut the hide vertically into strips about 6-8" wide and continue skinning as usual until we get to the neck.

The "shield" is one of several reasons we basically shoot sows. Right behind the ear or between the ear and the eye works no matter what caliber you use . . . doesn't mess up the carcase any, either. Nyami!
