from the Victoria Advocate: A wild hog - desperate for a path to freedom, and maybe a quick bite - smashed through a glass entrance at a Goliad Whataburger on Friday night and frightened customers. Goliad County Sheriff Kirby Brumby said a man was transporting the 250-pound animal from the Schroeder area when it broke out of its trailer near the intersection of State Highway 183 and U.S. Highway 59. The wayward hog ran toward the fast food burger joint, busting through one of its doors about 7:30 p.m. "I guess the glass looked like an opening," Brumby said. Then the creature went hog wild - dashing rampantly through the restaurant and behind the front counter before an employee opened a back door, allowing it to flee. Brumby said no one was injured and the man who was transporting the swine later captured it and hauled it away - possibly to hog heaven. The glass door was repaired. Whataburger personnel declined to comment. "I know a lot of people are laughing now," Brumby said. "But if you were in Whataburger when it happened, you were probably terrified." I hog hunt at the Wild River Ranch, just out of Goliad. Wish I was there! Question, why transport a live feral hog? For re-release, transport to slaughter house???? When catapults are outlawed, only outlaws will have catapults! | |||
