Well, the .309 JDJ came through again for me right at dark yesterday. After getting over 5 inches of rain the previous evening, the hogs were out and about – and in places they shouldn’t have been. This wasn’t hunting but more like an ADC-type situation – or, actually, a little like a shooting gallery. In fact, rarely do I get shots at such close ranges. The first shot was from about 100 yards, and I was able to line up a sow of perhaps 130 pounds in the foreground and a much larger (200+) behind her. The 150 grain Accubond took the first squarely through the shoulders and dropped it on the spot. The 2nd sow whirled and ran perhaps 30 yards before tipping over, the bullet neatly traversing the center of her lungs and exiting -- a dime-sized hol in and a dime-sized hole out. In the mean time, the others bolted but were confused as to where the shot came from. One hog I was lining up on turned and began trotting towards me. When she hit the 80 or so yard mark, I unleashed a round into the center of her chest, dropping it right there. Another flushed from cover and began to run directly away from me, though at a very slight angle. An Accubond through the edge of the flank dropped this one, too, the bullet ranging all the way to the shoulder before exiting. The big sow was far enough away from the road that I could not get to her (she did not go to waste; someone came to pick up all of them) with the truck considering all the rain we had. But I did manage to get the other 3 and put them together for a snapshot. Also, I now have a beautiful recovered bullet. The performance was textbook. Pic and details of it to come later. Great job Bobby. Had a fellow AR member from Maine down here from Wednesday thru Friday and was only able to find one pig. Great job and story Bobby. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Outstanding! I've shot stuff with 25 cal - 110 gr. Accubonds up to 375 cal - 260 gr. Accubonds and have yet to recover one. I'd be interested to see that recovered round if you get a chance to post a pix. Good on ya' Best GWB

Having shot Nosler Partitions since the Mid 1950s, I am very impressed with Accubonds! I have never had a terminal ballistics failure of a Nosler bullet. WTG Bobby! Rusty We Band of Brothers! Bobby, would that be say 16 to 18 inches of penetration. Classic on the A/B mushroom. One to keep and remember. Good for you. Pork on the menu. Best, GWB

You are reading my mind (not much there to read, though!). I was guessing right at 18" as well. Here is another 150 AB from a 30-30 AI with a MV of 2575 fps. If I recall correctly, this was a large boar at around 200 yards. It was a hard quartering shot that caught the hog around the last rib and left an exit on the center of the shoulder. But the bullet itself remained imbedded in the fat/hide and could be seen and popped out with the tip of a knife. I'd have to look up the details of retained weight, etc. , but I do know that it worked... This one caught a bit more bone with the opposite-side shoulder, but if left plenty of damage before it got there. I do love those ABs, though I have had great luck with BTs and BSTs at moderate velocities as well.
