Been a long spell since I popped a hog, but went out last night (near full moon) with the .22-250. I didn't want to sit in the truck as it is too hot and the tripod is in the wrong place for the current winds. So, just dropped the tailgate on the truck, put my sandbags and rest on the tailgate, pulled the cooler up beside me and stuck the earphones in. Also lit off the Thermacell as the rain we got 3 weeks ago produced a pretty good crop of 'skeeters. Deer at the feeder when I got there, and moonrise was about 9 or so. About 10:30 a pig showed up but didn't stick around long enough to get a shot, and I had forgotten my binocs so had to use the scope to view. 10 minutes later it's back and I settled the crosshairs and waited for "THE" shot. Slight quartering away shot and the 55 gr BT hit the sow right behind the left ear, and exited between the ear and eye on the off-side. Bang - flop - pedal a bit.

Kept an eye on it for a minute or two until it was obvious it was over, collected my "stuff" and drove down to the feeder. 140 lb sow that had a litter of 9, of which I got 8 of them and BF Goodrich got #9.

Noticed that there was brain matter blown for about 8 feet behind her--

Also been doing a bit of varmint control on the corn thieves--a Conibear hug works great.

Eland Slayer--declared war on them about a month ago--body count is up to 13 if I count the one from the yard. 76 days until archery opener and I plan on persecuting/prosecuting them until 2 weeks before opener! Corn's too expensive to feed them.

Nicely done on both counts! Have always been interested in the conibears but never got into them. Ran many a mile of traplines using coilsprings, though -- back in the good ol' days. Smiler
