Don't watch NFL so thought I would do something productive tonight and went for a sit at the local place. Got to my setting spot at 7:10, got in place and scanned---pigs were already in sight across the fence, headed to their feeder at about 120 yds. I set the rifle on the shooting sticks, waited until one stuck its head out of the big wad, and dropped it. Took several more shots at runners without connecting, and watched the original target to make sure it didn't take off. Walked back to the truck, reloaded the mag and drove to my seat to recover the seat and pack. Scanned again and saw a small one headed in the direction the others had gone--got the rifle set up and when it stopped I shot--not a good shot but wounded it. It ran/limped off and was out of sight nearly immediately. Went thru the gate to the feeder and got ready to tie the dead boar (about 80 lbs) to the drag rope and scanned in the direction the sounder had run--there they were, in the green field about 250 yds out. Decided I might as well try a sneak even with the winds not all that favorable, and before I got ready to shoot, they sniffed me and hurried off into the treeline. I knew where the gate to this next field was and thought maybe I could get in the field and go crosswind to a better angle and then quarter towards them, which I did. Got to about 75 yds and set up, picking up a big one moving to the right, but before I could shoot, I lost sight of it. So, picked another one out and dropped it in its tracks. Another running hog scenario, but I did better this time and nailed one of the runners. Back to the truck, load the first one in the truck, and drove to the treeline. Found the first one here easily, DRT. Began to scan to see if the other one was around and spotted her about 75 yds into the woods laying on her belly, but not dead. Got the rifle and shooting sticks, set up, and popped her behind the ear. When I walked up to her I knew she was big, but the last sow I shot on this place was big too (208#). Once I got them dragged off to the buzzard buffet, and on the scale, I found I had just upped my biggest sow record--by 15# as she weighed 223. She also had 7 buns in the oven-- All in all a great night. Would have been even better if I was a better shot on the runners. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool" | ||

The pigs are getting an undeserved break for a weeek due to the cold weather. Hi/Low on Monday forecast to be 30/12 with a good chance of snow. This old guy is gonna stay indoors until the temps warm up. And before you (georgeld) tell me that those are warm temps, I'm a wuss when it comes to cold. Dusty: You've got that part right I just let the dog out, she didn't stay long. Temp going down, this time 5F, so far that's above! I'd almost bet by 9am it'll be on the other side of zero. Major crash at Ft Worth today killed 9 on the ice. I've been in Texass ice storms a few times. Stay inside!! George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!"
