It’s almost a week into September, why hasn’t Bobby shot a pig yet Confused Smiler

"A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact."

Been fighting some bad flare-ups with my health issues and have been relegated to staying inside much of the time. One of my shooting rests is less than 25 yard from the front door, yet on some days, that may as well be 25 miles. But I have high hopes of changing that pig-shooting drought soon...if a hog will saunter into view. Big Grin

If he is like me, its been just too hot and dry. Pigs are moving well after midnight and very irregular. I am not that mad at em to sit all night anymore! Hoping this cooler and wetter weather will get them moving earlier. Get one Bobby, I can't seem too!!

Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. I just brought one of my rifles out there to allow the scope to adjust to this awful humidity (it has been inside in the AC). May take a look or two later this evening.

And like Live Oak noted, their movement seems to have been very sporadic and well into the wee morning hours.

We have finally started getting some much needed rain this week, but in all my travels over the past 45 days or so the only pigs I have seen are those that were hit by vehicles at night.

Hey if any of you guys are looking for a deal on some primo low-light optics, I will be selling some of the scopes I've been testing the past few months.

I already have a Meopta 8x56 in the classifieds, but in the next day or 2 I'll be listing either a Schmidt & Bender T96 Polar 2.5-10x50 or a Steiner NightHunter Xtreme 2-10x50. These 2 are so close that it's hard to choose. The SB is 34mm vs 30 for the Steiner. Both are incredible in low-light. The SB has ever-so-slightly better resolution, but the Steiner illuminated dot adjusts dimmer than any other I have tried. Honestly, you could flip a coin, pick one and be forever happy with its performance.

Or I may just shift gears and part with a Minox ZE 5i 3-15x56/SF that has a LOT going for it in terms of low-light performance. I've used it on both hogs and coyotes in moonlight and continue to be impressed by this scope, which truly deserves mention among the more notable elites in the industry. But every time I think I may sell it, I look through it again and change my mind. Smiler

There will likely be a couple others as well, including one surprise for the price point: a Hawke Endurance 30 WA 2-10x50. I took a couple of coyotes with it, one with a shooting light attached and the other in pure moonlight -- not bad for a scope that only sells for $439 brand new.

Anyway, just mentioning this in case any of you guys may be looking for a nice scope -- and at a fraction of what they'd normally cost.

Bobby, I just looked at your humidities in Shiner. Holy cats, Batman! Just step outside for your morning sweat-shower!

Bill-Yep, the humidity can be rough, but this week, I am thankful that the showers and associated cloud cover in the area have kept temps well below average. But when that high humidity and 100 degree+ temps are in effect, it's pretty rough out there.

I hope you do, my friend! It's 3 a.m., and I can't sleep, but I can't look outside for hogs, either, because there is a fine mist or fog in the air that obscures the view. Frowner

So I'm hoping someone here gets something and posts pictures because I am suffering hog-shooting withdrawals! Smiler

Well . . . If 5 shoats in the trap counts, it's your turn Bobby--

That's another $25 worth of pigtails for the county bounty program.
