I have some hog hunts available year around in Texas...The hogs have a lot of Russian in them and we shoot some real big ones..6000 acres low fenced..
$125 per day per person.
$40.00 per night per person for use of lodge.

Owner shows you where the hogs are and where to hunt. You bring your own groceries and do your own cooking, the lodge has stocked kitchen, pool table, living room, 6 bunks, stocked shower...

If you want a fully guided and catered hunt then I can arrange that also..

I have this in the classified but thought some of you might be interrested in this hog section.

Ray,

I'm interested as well, is there a limit on the hogs and any trophy fee for each one?

No limit, no trophy fee.....

Not a guided hunt, but owner will show you where to hunt and get you squared away....He keeps bait out.

Owner will skin and quarter for an additional fee..ranch has facilities to butcher and you can use them at no cost..Seymour has a packing plant and will do whatever you want.

Some folks keep asking me for guarentees and some want to be guided so let me make this clear, not guided and no guarentee...no guide and no cook is what keeps the price down..and I would only guarentee on a fenced hunt, this is a low fence fair chase hunt..I could probably talk the owner into guiding someone at an additiona price, but see no need to do that, you probably don't need a guide on a hog hunt.

The best I can tell you is everyone that I have sent has shot at least one hog or had an opertunity, some have shot a number of hogs..some folks just hunt harder than others.

I have this hunt for those folks that want to get away and have a good time and not break the bank doing it, I do that by keeping the cost down....

I have other hunts with guarentees and guides, cooks etc but they cost considerably more money..

If there is some kind of special treatment you want or need I suspect it can be worked out.

I suggest that many folks hunt too few days, and fair chase hunting success is based on time hunted, that is your best success berometer..I think any hunt should be 3 to 5 days, but most of my clients do 2 days and they have been successful so far, but I would prefer a longer hunt, you never know when incliment weather, moon, and most of all the wind, is going to effect the hunting.

Also I might add that these good folks also offer some good deer, goose, duck, quail, Sand hill Crane, turkey hunting and bow fishing. Also their lake has some good crappie fishing.

A deer hunt during the season includes use of the lodge, you bring food and cook for yourself..You get one buck, one doe, all the hogs you want to shoot, for a flat rate of $2500. We are allready filling up on this one..

Spring turkey at $200 per day
Quail at $125 per day
Dove at $50 per day
Ducks at $125 per day
Geese at $200 per day

Lots of game on this ranch.

Les, in Ray's ad in the classified section he says that he hunted there recently with a rifle. I imagine that you can hunt with any type of weapon you want.

Are there elevated stands on the ranch for hogs or just stalk? I need an elevated stand because of my poor peripheral vision. Don't want a biggun charging me that I can't see. Merg

You can use anything you want to hunt them. Pistol, rifle, archery, spear, tomahawk...

Yes, we have 6 big, new, elevated stands on the property, last time I counted..

Non residents will need a $45 pig license.

I booked this hunt through Ray, and hunted Feb 26 and 27 this year. The hunt was generally as advertised. It is not a high dollar, guided hunt, but that wasn't what I wanted. I shot two hogs while I was there. Both were good size. I only saw one other small piglet. My hunting partner did not ever see a hog. I don't think there is a high hog density, but that is fairly typical of low fence operations in my expereince. The property is getting hunted fairly hard.
Accomodations were adequate to excellent. A very nice bunkhouse with the basic kitchen utensils, etc. We hunted so hard we spent little time in the lodge, but could easily have enjoyed spending more time there.
Most of the hogs are shot at night, according to the rancher. A lot from 10pm to midnight, even later. Defintiely plan to bring a spotlight. Hunting is fundamentally all from stands, ranging from 40 - 130 yards. I did not see any stands particularly condusive to bow hunting, which was fine as I was using a rifle. I will also say that the long range stand (130 yds) is pushing the limit of some spotlights.

Overall the blinds were fine. Some are new, some much older, about typical I would say. Some blinds were lacking chairs, so we had to move the good seats from blind to blind. A minor annoyance if you planned ahead, a big problem if you were dropped off by your frined without checking first! Some blinds need to be cleaned up a bit (owls got in one), but again about the norm from what I have seen on other Texas ranches.

The biggest surprise for me was the lack of any cold storage facilities. I was told to bring ice chest for the meat, but assumed this meant for taking them home. The ranch sells bagged ice to put in your ice chests to cool out the hogs, but there is no cold storage facility. You must keep your hogs in ice chests and add ice throughout your stay. Not a huge problem, just not what I expected.

Overall I was satisfied with the hunt. It is not a five star operation, and that isn't what I paid for. It is an economical way to enjoy a few days of hog hunting in Texas. I think you would have to be extremely lucky to shoot 2 hogs a day, but it is possible. You should get an opportunity to shoot a hog if you are willing to sit long into the night.

Cheers,

Bill

In order to give you a more catered hunt, the owner would have to charge more..The way it is, it is working quite well for about everyone...

So far everyone but Lammapackers friend has shot a hog and most have shot two or three or even more...

The grass due to much rain is about 3 foot high and it is hard to see a hog until he is in the feeder..My hog stuck his head out of the grass but wouldn't come out to the feeder, so I waited and finally had to shoot him behind the ear, he was waiting for dark I think...

I have more expensive hog hunts, that cater more to the hunter if you like, but I see this one as the kind of hunt that doesn't break the bank and is enjoyable if you can cook for yourself and don't need a lot of pampering...

Also its a low fence hunt, so the pigs can come and go and most on the internet say they don't want a high fenced hunt...

Cold storage is available in town..and they will process and freeze for you, they have dry ice available...

At the ranch they have a SS butcher table, water and a hoist..The rancher will gut, skin, and quarter your hog for about $125. if you want.

I had a nice two day hunt on the last 2 days of deer season and got a pig and nice buck..

One thing I would suggest is two days can sometimes be too short a time for a fair chase hunt for any free ranging animal IMO, time is your best friend in free chase hunting of any kind. Those that have booked 4 day hunts or more have shot a lot more hogs accordingly.

My high fenced catered hunts will run about $500 per day, accomodations are fantastic and success is great, but the hogs are more towards the piggy Poland China type and not much Russian (European)...

300 min mag 180 grain accubond. One hand on light the other on rifle. You can see by pic hit high on front shoulder. Went down within 10 feet of hit. Pigs ran as soon as hit by light. Great fun! They are some spooky pigs. Didn't weight the pig but it was large for a sow. My son and I could barely get it loaded on truck hitch rack. We would like to go back for a combined Pig Turkey hunt next spring. People at ranch coudn't be nicer.

Glad you guys had a good time, it is a fun hunt, and its not a cake walk either..We have very near a 100 percent success rate, but its no guarentee, its still fair chase and low fence..Lots of Turkeys, I saw them every day on my hunt and I hunted the last two days of Deer and the fall turkey season...

Spring season begins is April 1...and we only take a limited amount of Turkey hunters.
