I have posted several pictures and stories of my Buddy,Pat, from his south Texas ranch. He has been playing with the 6.5X47Lapua round with 130 Accubonds. Below is Pat's story. Been showering or very light rain most of the evening but I decided to go for a walk anyway... Went down to the creek crossing going into the maize/corn field and slipped over the gap.. I had only walked a couple of hundred yards when I saw something out of place about 1/2 mile down the dirt road.... A quick look through the scope showed a batch of little pigs farting around on road between the corn and maize. I hustled on down there but when I was still 3 or 400 yards away they went into the maize.. I kept on walking their way and glancing down the middles hoping to run into them.. After a bit they reappeared out on the road and I again hurried towards them trying to close the gap.. When I was still about 175 yards from them they started filtering back into the maize.. I got down on one knee and tried to steady my aim as the wind was buffeting the rifle.. As the crosshairs were moving a couple of feet on and off the pig something in my mind clicked and the rifle went off. The pig went DOWN. He was angling away and the bullet took him in the flank and exited out the top of his shoulders... Thank goodness for Jewell triggers !! The 130 grain Accubond pretty much unzipped this piggy... So that means he would have been better off with a Lott? Butch

I have shot several pigs with Elephant Guns, ie 450 No2, and never done that much damage. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

So how far did he run? ----------------------------------------- "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. -Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Shot a sow 3 weeks ago with my .22-250 at about 45 yds, same angle, and it had the same effect, only she ran about 15 yds before she "exploded". The hole in her flank wasn't nearly as big as the innards that expressed out the hole. An old pilot, not a bold pilot, aka "the pig murdering fool"

I need to dig up the photos of a hog hunt 3 years ago where my buddy (jwp475) unzipped one similarly with a 300 win mag at 350 yards. It was loaded with 180 grain TSXs. I too have shot 'em with my .416 Remmie and .458 Lott and I have never done anywhere near that kind of damage. Yikes! "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." I love it! Roll 'em over, shake them good and put them on the fire grill. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Maybe velocity has it's place. How about a 300 grain .458 Lott load at 2900 fps?

I don't like a lot of meat damage, personally. Here is the photo I promised of a buddy's hog with a .300 win mag, 180 grain TSX at 350 yards (measured). Oh, and it ran off and required a finishing shot to the head -- believe it or not. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid."
