SevastopolI didn't know there was such a magazine. I've always wondered why there aren't publications on pig hunting, being that they probably get hunted more than anything else.

Bob in TXLong gone...tough to come up with enough for 6-12 issues per year just on hogs.

WhitworthIt's not long gone, Bob, the doors were closed at the start of this year. Too much trouble scrambling for advertising dollars.

georgeldHell of a deal.
Sure think that's the one I just ordered a few nights ago and charged to my card.
Got a reply: "your copies will be there in a few days."
OOOOHHHH wait!! I paid ten bucks for the first ten issues, that's what it was I ordered. Turned out the ten mags are a buck each, postage is another $6. Just about cancelled out when I saw that. but what the heck, let it go this time might be some good reading and a buck a mag is too cheap if it's any good to read. Right?
What about other hog hunting mags, surely there's others out there somewhere. I'd be interested in subscribing if you guys could provide info.
Thanks much,
George

Mad DogWell, I guess it doesn't surprise me. I have all their issues, going back to no. 1. The last couple years, the magazine has really gone down hill. I wasn't going to re new, anyway.

LOL! There's no shortage of hog hunting, just a shortage of advertising dollars in this economy. The magazine industry is taking a beating.

Mad DogWhitworth, which column was yours?
The problem with the last few issues, the magazine was only about 50 pages, and 1/2 of it was advertising. I used to read the mag. cover to cover, last few issues only took about 10-15 minutes to read. Am somewhat surprised to not get any notification to the effect that the mag was shutting down.

WhitworthHog Iron was my column -- I tested guns (usually handguns). I write for other magazines and they are all suffering the economy terribly (obviously everyone is).

swifter 220Had I known about the magazine, I would have probably taken a trial subscription, but I had not heard of it. Pig hunting is fun, challenging and a great way to test loads, bullets, lights and clothing among a few items. What else can we hunt year round for free? Most of the places I frequent, the landowner gladly let me hunt there just to get rid of the pigs.
Ah, the money. One of the reasons I very seldom watch the hunting programs is that most, not all, those guys are all about the money. I have seen very few that of these PRO HUNTERS that actually love the hunt for what it is, not just getting a kill shot on film. It makes my toes curl when I see one of these guys in a stand watching a two-three year old deer, wetting their pants, grabbing rifle and saying over and over it’s a shooter, it’s a shooter, can’t go that. The money. Who would pay more for a chance to have their product shown taking a deer, elk, etc. than a nasty old pig?
I think it is sad the magazine went by the way side because I think that hog hunting, given the present numbers of them, will be here for a long time.

WhitworthI hear what you're saying. Unfortunately, subscription money doesn't come anywhere near covering the costs of producing a magazine and in fact they (magazine publishers) pretty much give them away. Ads pay for the production.

Race BannonSaw the hog iron articles and figured from what photos I've seen on this site that it was you Whitworth.
I ordered all the back issues several years ago.
There's definately a change since the beginning.
I looked forward to getting the mag every other month with hopes the content had improved some.
Hog iron was an improvment but the rest became a bunch of short stories.
You'd think with all the deer mags and research we'd know everything about them by now and those would dry up also.
Guess there's not enough money in hogs.
