I will be in SW Florida for the month of April this year (2012). Can any recommend a pig hunt, outfitter, etc during this time? Thanks.

This one's been hashed thru several times over the past yr. Read up on some of the older pages. OR run a search for: Fla hog hunting there's 100's come up that way. I shot two at Tiger Island Outfitters, 53ac short fenced place that buys trapped hogs from 4hrs south for $30 each. Charge's $125 ea, plus $1lb over 100. Depends on your desires. I wouldn't have chosen this guy. I was going fishing with a JAX fellow I met online & never met. His cousin is a fishing guide there too so we just did both. Cedar Key, on the gulf side on the lower edge of the big bend area. One thing I'd never want to see is you have him do taxidermy work. PPoor imo and I'm looking at two on the wall everday. George is right. Do a seach on this forum and a lot will come up. We have had this discussion many times. There are lots of outfitters around Lake Okeechobee. Good luck and keep us posted. Tried to edit my first post on this. I back charged my visa card on the guy for the last $800. His reply and one from his wife are so full of lies I'd never send him further business. IF you or anyone else would like more details, contact me direct by e'mail. Just take it from me, his word is No Good! Wish you the best, George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Hog Heaven is a nice place. I've taken quite a few people there for their first hog hunts. I do most of my hog hunts on WMA's but will hunt with them when I need to get a hog for a scheduled BBQ/roast. See their website online. Hog Heaven Ranch

Whitworth: Been thinking things over since you posted the last note about this. THink I'll go ahead and tell some of it. Made a contact on ammobrasstrader in Jacksonville. Since I'd inherited several grand from the folks. I wanted to make a fishing trip to the Salt and hog hunt combined. Asked this guy if he could set it up. Turned out his cousin has a fishing guide service at Cedar Key and there's hog huntin around those parts. He set up a date and we went. Things went well the first day, I shot a 140# boar, that night I thought about it and decided I'd like to get a bigger one. Next day I shot one of 200# even. I was happy at the time. Chrichton Allen: dba Tiger Island Outfitters. Has 43 short fenced acres in heavy timber, several blinds set up in the woods. Seemed like fine ole country boy's to me and I trusted him. After the shooting, and while his boys were skinning the hog I shot and piglet Steve shot. I asked them to cut the hide long enough for a shoulder mount and asked him to flesh it out so I could bring it home on the plane for mounting. He up and said: "I'm a taxidermist" We ended up making a deal. That he'd send the cape's to his tannery in NY as I don't want them to rot away like 90% of home tanned stuff does. I've got a moose, bear, caribou, had a muley buck remounted, threw away coyotes & fine bobcat & fox skins because they rotted away due to p/poor tanning. We had a handshake agreement that's what he'd do. He never did send me the bill. When it was done, I asked him why not. "ahh, I just went ahead and had my buddy up the road do yours as too as he was doing several others for some other hunters I'm mounting for". I also discussed packing them so they wouldn't be damaged and to make sure to insure things. His wife called to say they were ready. I needed to deposit funds on the card and called her back when that was done. That's the last I've talked to either of them. One day I came home to find the two boxes on the porch. Sent parcel post, Ear tips and teeth had poked out thru the boxes several places. Upon opening, all four tusks & 1 upper had broken off, ear tips broken off. For packing they used a grocery bag of peanuts, hand full of paper napkins and a dirty old pillow in each box. None of this was near enough to keep the heads from being nearly loose in the boxes much larger than necessary. I tried calling 8 times over the week after getting the heads. They would never answer, nor call me back. I took lots of pic's and mailed them a set along with a letter of warning that if they didn't call me back shortly I planned on filing for a charge back on the last $800 to my Visa card. Two weeks went by w/o hearing anything. So I filed for charge back along with plenty of pictures to back up my claims. This was in Aug. Three wks ago I got his reply to the visa letters. That: "NO ONE dictates who I get my supplies or tanning from, we did not have any such agreement, we've been in business 7yrs w/o a problem before this, George called my wife to say he was very pleased with how the heads turned out, I was floored to get the letter of being charged back as I'd never heard a complaint until then" I've had my partner write a statement of what he heard us making agreement about etc. I had the heads repaired at my local taxidermist for $70 and a letter of the work needed and what they'd found. "fully hard tanned that will crack whenever the humidity changes, should be semi hard tan." "needed lot's of epoxy to fill the open space's under the skins, reglued the teeth & tusks, repaired the cracks and broken ear tips----" That's pretty much my complaint. I have no faith at all in the mounting lasting where both heads cracked at the mouths, eye's and around the ears in less than six weeks of arrival. Whit: IF you don't feel this should be posted here, delete since you're the admin. You asked to hear my side of it, there it is.
