Does anyone know of any scope repair services that will work on some of the older less expensive scopes. The only one's I've seen only work on high end scopes. I don't currently have a problem scope, but I see a number of old Lyman Alaskans and similar neat scopes that are in poor shape. It might be nice to restore one of them for on a period rifle, like a sporter Springfield. If somebody does this kind of thing, do they recoat lenses? Thanks Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

I would doubt that any scope repair house would recoat lenses. That is a very complex process and is done by a company facilitized for doing it. It's not a simple process. Don

http://www.weaver-scope-repair.com/ I don't know if these folks work on anything other than Weavers, but you might give them a try.

Thanks I thought it would not be possible to recoat lenses, but added that as an after thought. This all started when friend bought a nice Springfield 03 sporter and we talked about putting an older scope on it. Had a customer walk in the same day with an old Redfield that was his Dad's and still on Dad's gun that he wanted to get fixed to keep as a reminder of their time together. Thought I'd ask here to see if it was even an option. Most, but not all, of my old scopes are Leupies, so that's not a problem for me, yet. Old Weavers, Redfields and Lymans have a strong following and make some old rifles fun to shoot. Thanks Bfly Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

Interestingly, I had breakfast yesterday morning with a hunting buddy who has a Redfield scope in need of repair. He mentioned that he had called around and found the Frank Ruiz, the main man at Weaver, El Paso scope repair, was recommended to fix his scope. I also found the following repair house that fixes old Redfields: Iron Sight Inc 4814 South Elwood Ave Tulsa, OK 74107 918-445-2001 or 918-521-7736 Spent a lot of time in Newville, buying groceries, when I was on vacations in Pine Grove Furnace.
