I have an older leupold, gloss model 2-7x33..... it says vari x ii on it, its a slide 1/2 moa adjust dials.


what difference is this to the VX2 models?

I cant seem to find too much info on these vari x models.

The Vari-X II has the friction turrets and the VX 2 has the .25 MOA click adjustments. I have heard the VX2 is the same scope as the Vari-X III.

Your older Vari X-II (unless it is a Vari-X II-c) probably has a 28mm objective, while the later VX models in the same power range use a 33mm objective. Having the smaller objective isn't all bad -- it will mount lower on the receiver and is a lighter weight scope.

The optical design of the two scopes is pretty much the same, but changes have been made in the physical package to reduce manufacturing costs. And Leupold has now completely abandoned the "continuously adjustable" friction W&E adjustments found on the Vari-X II series in favor of "click" adjustments, which seem to be more popular with consumers (although not necessarily superior).

Early vari-x11s were 2x7x28, later they adopted the 2x7x33..I still use and prefer the 2x7x28. but I like small scopes..The vari x 1s, 2s, and 3s are all good scopes for the hunter. They all three gather as much light as the human eye can stand, and they have always worked for me..I can fathom a $1000 to $3000 big bulky scope on my hunting rifles, they serve no purpose, and are basically a rip off stating the difference in men and boys is the cost of mens toys!

First, the (Vari-X-I) did not have positive click adjustments like today.

Back in the day Vari-X III scopes had Multi coat 4.
Now the VX-2 has Multi coat 4 and the VX-3 Now has diamond coat 2 “coating”.
They both have index matched - edge blackened lenses but VX-2 is Argon / Krypton and VX-3 is second generation Argon / Krypton filled.
Wow! One can buy a VX-2 and get a scope that is just as good as the older Vari-X-3's.

The FX and rifleman series lines only state fully multi-coated lenses and fall in line with many lower priced scopes.
