I am working a gun trade minus optics and need to place a value on the scope so I can adjust the price. I traded for the rifle/scope several years ago so I dont know what it original cost. I think it is an older Burris, 8-32 x I think 40. It has 1/8" click adjustments, fine xhair but they dont cross. It has a small circle for the aiming point. I never cared for the reticle but I suppose it was designed for a benchrest target?? It has parallax adjustment and an additional adjustment to vary the light. Excellent glass quality with light usage marks on the exterior. What do yall think? Thanks for your help!

Of course, value will vary by region and demand. But to me, a fair value on it would be around $250 to maybe $275.

yup thats an old burris, made shortly after don left redfield by the looks of it. i doubt that you'll get much more than 150 for it especially with the circle reticule. not to many like that. if you do by oll means keep it. don burris forgot more about scopes than most every knew

Burris delivered what the spammers keep promising to do for your male organ -- make it long and heavy. Not to mention having to line it up just right to use it.

I'd say $200, but a trip to ebay might get you some better market examples.

Personally I think you'd be incredibly lucky to get $150 for it, but I don't have much use for high power old glass.

I based my numbers on what I saw a couple like it go for on e-bay a while back. That may have been the result of some over-zealous bidders -- a common occurrence over there.

But I have to agree with you guys: Getting that $$ for it will be another thing.

I have a number of newer Burris scopes, but the older ones just don't hold any appeal to me.

I think Bobby Tomek's numbers are about right. I recently paid just about that for one that maybe looked a bit better cosmetically. I also don't know if they are quite as old as some say. They made those in the Signature versions until not so many years ago.

I have had a couple in 6-24x and got $275 and $300 for them in private sales. Didn't want to sell either, but they were on rifles I was selling. The buyers made the offer which I eventually took. But I fully intended to replace them if I got the chance.

They are very good scopes even by current standards if you need something in that magnification range. They are very long, and fairly heavy, but on the type rifle you want 8-32x well those are usually pretty heavy already anyway.

Didn't mention it before, but would love to hear the details of that rifle you have the Burris 8x32 mounted upon. What barrel and caliber is that? The stock is rather fetching on it too.

Sure, It was built by David Sullivan in Colorado. I traded a heavy benchrest rifle to a man in Memphis, TN for this rifle and I simply find myself hunting way more than benchrest shooting. Even though the Ruger is certainly more practical for hunting than the heavy gun it is still too heavy and out of balance to carry. Its a 257 Ack, Hart Barrel, Kipplinger trigger. Very accurate, neat little round capable of 3700+ fps with a 75 gr amax.
