Check out the Burris Landmark spotting scopes. Seem to be a decent scope for a fair price. Check out the following link for an example.

A good scope, that is only $199.99, is the Vortex Sandpiper Spotting Scope

Have a great day,

One place to find spotting scopes that shooters/hunters tend to overlook are the astronomical telescope outfits like Astronomics. I would call a good number of these scopes excellent when it comes to range work. Not necessarily good for field work as some will be large and/or heavy. They give you excellent resolution and are very cost effective.

I've been tempted to get a small Maksutov Cassgrain for range work as I already have a good selection of lenses from my astronomical telescope. There are a few companies that make these types of scopes for "birding" with the corrector prism and you can go anywhere from 15X to 200X with appropriate eyepieces. You can get good quality zoom eyepieces but the combination of this type of scope and eyepieces will get you up there in price. Most of these same companies offer spotting scopes of the same design as most of us are used to at very reasonable prices.

What about magnification? 14-45x65 vs 20-60...

Im wondering if I need a 20-60 or is 15-45 enough?

Whats the scoop on magnification and seeing holes on target out far,,, 300+ yards

Rick

I have two Burris Signature spotters, one is 30 X 60 and the other is 18-45 X 60. I just got the variable but have saw 30 cal holes in targets at 700 yds with the 30 power. I know I can see 17 cal holes at 300 with this spotter. I might sell one of these when I decide which one I like the best. I usually prefer fixed power because the field of view is better. God Bless, Louis
