Anyone thoughts on these yet and had a chance to look through them?
I'm in need of a couple "budget" scopes and just saw these online. I'm assuming this is replacing the VX-1 line?

No experience with this new scope. My understanding is Leupold discontinued both it's VX1 and VX2 lines and replaced them with the Freedom. Here's one that's for sale:

It sounds like a variation on the current fighting-brand jingoism. So, presumably it is made in the USA - but at those prices you'd have to wonder.

With the looks of their new lines, the old models just went up in value.

I ended up buying one of these scopes in 3x9x40 really just to check out.

It is very utilitarian in looks for sure. Lots of sharp angles on the turret box.
Doing a SxS comparison with a 2.5 yr old 3x9x40 VX-2, the glass in the VX-F is a good bit better, both in brightness and clarity.
The matte finish is not as good on the VX-F as is on the VX-2. Seems kinda chalky and I'm sure will scratch easily.
Tube seems to be a thinner wall than the VX-2, maybe not but seems to be.
The turrets are finger adjustable and there is a feel-able "click" in the adjustments but it's not overly pronounced certainly not audible.
The power ring is smooth and easy and there is no real shift in the eye box or eye relief through all magnifications. This is pretty typical of every Leupold I have owned and one my favorite things about them. It does have the old school focus lock ring instead of the euro style.

Mine was $187 on Amazon and I think it's well worth it, I own quite a few budget scopes: Burris FFII, Vortex Diamondback, Nikon ProStaff and Minox ZV3. I would say this one is tied with the Minox ZV3 and ahead of of the others in the clarity/brightness department.

Yup. I love the VX-III series from the 2005/6 era. Have three and looking for another.
