Gee, why didn't I think of that?! A three pound, twenty power scope with an obective the size of a pie plate on a semi-auto hunting rifle. Be sure to use QD mounts so if you need to finish a wounded animal you can instantly snap the scope off and just club the animal to death with its 56mm objective.

Stonecreek that is pretty funny but maybe a little tough on Acrnstlkr who is a new member and may be new to shooting and hunting. I think I know quite a bit about shooting hunting and firearms in general but compared to many on this site I am like a fly on a buffalo's back.

Acrnstlkr you should have said what caliber your rifle is in and what you plan to use it for. The scope you are asking about is a very specialized scope that has limited general use. Perhaps a good use would be Varmint hunting or military or police operation or even a bean field rifle. Some people have a scope of that power for a Coues deer rifle or maybe pronghorn hunting but not with that large of an objective and not usually on a semi-automatic. I think the scope you are asking about cost around $1000 so in that price range or less you have many great choices. Bushnell has a new 6500 model with 2.5x16 power in either a 42 or 50 mm lens with almost twice the Field of View of the Leupold. The Bushnell is a new model and I have never seem one. There are lots of choices in that price range or less; including all of the Nikon and many of the Zeiss and Swarovski models. Hope this helps you Acrnstlkr.

You are of course correct, AA, that my response was perhaps unnecessarily sarcastic. You've provided Acrnstlkr with much more useful information. However, considering where he is starting from, I have some doubt that he will be inclined to listen to your advice.

I agree Stonecreek's response was quite sarcastic but pretty darn entertaining too.

We tend to be a coolest gadget society and that goes for the forum too. There just aren't that many hunting situations where a decent 3x9x40 on a bolt action 30-06 wouldn't work just fine.....but that would be really boring.

When younger hunters start doing research they often want the best, newest, coolest even if it isn't required, or the best tool, or the best value.....then they grow up and turn grouchy and sarcastic.....but funny.
