I'm buying a new Leupold 30mm scope and I went ring hunting.
I've had a scope on a 300WM and a 7RM for 20-25 years. And they have both be spot on when I'd take them out of the locker. The scopes for those two rifles, as well as the majority of my other rifle scopes, are mounted in Weaver rings. Ugly as a mud fence but yet to be improved on. I doubt that I paid any more than $25.00 for any of them.
And now we come to my whine: They are wanting $75.00-$150.00 for a set of 30mm rings. IMO, there isn't a set of rings out there worth that even if they sent a smith to your house to mount the scope.
I don't mind paying 1K for a scope but that kind of money for a set of rings is rediculous. I'm seriously thinking about renigning on the scope.

What rings are you looking at?? That sounds like some fairly fancy stuff, Talleys or whatever?

If you like Weaver type mounts, why don't you look at a set of Burris "Signature Zee" rings - uses Weaver bases, and the plastic inserts ensures your scope does not get ring marks (in case you would ever want to mount it on another gun). Midsouth sells the Burris "Signature Zee" 30mm rings for less than $50. Not exactly rock bottom, but still quite a bit less than the $75-$150 you quoted. These really are excellent rings, if perhaps not the prettiest.

Alternatively, if the lowest price is what you are looking for, a set of Weaver 30 mm rings can be had for between 10 and 30$, or so.

Good luck
