A friend has offered to sell me his 8X56 Zeiss scope. It's in nice condition (just faint ring marks) and has what I would call a heavy Duplex reticle. I want to be fair with him and suggested we seek forum advice. Any thoughts on a value fair to both of us? Edward Lundberg

Since it's a european scope, it's probably a Number 8 reticle. Basically, a heavy duplex with a little more space in the middle. Or, if you prefer, a Number 4 with a top piece. Can you give us more information about scope? Specific model and series. How old. Where was it made. West German made. All of that will help. LWD

I could be wrong, but I think the Diatal ZA is a 26mm tube version dating from about 1990. If so I would guess about GBP200 to GBP300 depending on condition. If it is a newer version, then considerably more - currently about GBP650 new or GBP850 new for the illuminated reticle models

I was going to say upper 3-figures. But if it's a 26mm tube then, yes, the price will be lower. Those rings are harder to find, and the resale isn't there because of that. LWD
