I need a new scope for my 7mm-08 to hunt mostly in Namibia and Texas. I am trying to decide between the Trijicons and the Kahles.

I have a trijicon 3-9 x 40 with red triangle on an AR-10. I love it for shooting Texas deer and hogs. The red triangle is very quick to aquire for jump shooting when you're out stalking. I don't think you'd be disappointed with the trijicon. I was pretty surprised with the clarity of the glass. I'll probably scope a 375 H&H with the same scope (or possibly a 1-4 x 24 trijicon. For all my rifles, I've pretty much settled on either Zeiss Conquests or Trijicons.

I looked through a number of quality scopes at a sporting goods store the other night and Tijicon was in the group. However they didn't have Kahles. The Trijicon has decent glass, but the eye relief was the worst of the group. I looked at Leupold, Zeiss, Nightforce (my favorite), Swaro, and S&B. My ranking based on my criteria put Nightforce at the top. I am not saying their glass is the best, but it is great glass. However their reticle selection, durability, repeatability and price is why I own one. Swaro, S&B, Zeiss and then Leupold are how I rated them. Trijicon was last. Your eyes may see it differently. Don't buy a scope without trying it out with your eyes. You may be very disappointed. A friend who does a lot of shooting was with me and he had the same opinion about the eye relief of Trijicon.

My choice would be the Kahles. But I am biased,I own a couple already. I have looked through a few Trijicon and am glad I own the Kahles

I bought a Kahles closeout 3-9X42 Multizero from CDNN last year. I had it in the deer blind during the holidays with a Swarovski Z6 1.7-10X42. The brightness, color and resolution of the Kahles compared very favorably with the much more expensive Swarovski. You might look into whether the Kahles can be serviced in the U.S.

I've still got 2 Kahles (a 6x42 and a 1.5-6x42); sold another 1.5-6x42 and had a 3-12x56 & a 1.5-6x42 mounted in Steyr swing mounts on a Steyr-Mannlicher I sold; so I've owned 5 and they've all been very good scopes. I had to return one of the 1.5-6x42's for service (to the factory) after the recticle came apart but that was after 25+ years of HARD use. I'm convinced the air miles in the baggage hold were harder on the scope than any other trial I put it through. They're good scopes for the price IMO. Having said that I've got a buddy with a 2.5-10x56 Trujicon atop a .30/06 Sprg. and I've sure been impressed with the quality of that particular scope, too; I really like their innovative "Red-Dot" without batteries. Tough choice between the two but I'd tend to the Kahles; like KM5LA above mentions in a 3-9x42 - really good optic but then again; Kahles is a subsidiary of Swarovski. Cheers, Number 10

Try the kahles. I have a trijicon on a 7 mag and every time I have taken it on a trip it loses its zero. Last trip only about 150 miles> The gun was in a sloid case.

I have owned both Kahles and Trijicon scopes, and you can't go wrong either way. I have never had a problem with either of them. Between the two with all things being equal, I would buy the Kahles again for no other reason than I find them "cosmetically" more appealing to my eyes. Not to muddy the waters, but in pretty much the same price range as the Kahles and Trijicons, I would look seriously at the Swarovski AV series scopes.

I would go with the Kahles; they are great scopes. Incidentally, Swarovski owns Kahles and I find them to be a great value for money with a very favorable comparison to the significantly more expensive swaros.

I shoot with both. Kahles is my favorite. A friend borrowed one of my rifles with a Kahles for an evening on a deer stand. When he came back he told the other guys that I had a night vision scope on the rifle. Detail is also clearer. Just a step up from Trijicon, IMO. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

They are both very good scopes, the uper hand goes to Kahles. However Swaro has sold the Kahles line off. They no longer have a US distributor and I'm not sure if their warranty facility in the states is still operational. Shipping them back to Austria for work is expensive. That's a big minus in the Kahles category. Even the best scopes go bad. Unless something has changed in the last couple of weeks, Kahles is distributed in the US by Gamo and warranty still honored by it's parent Swarovski. Check their website. I too have a fondness for Kahles. I have 8-10 of their scopes and they've served me well from my home state deer woods to Africa.

I have 3 Kahles scopes; one an older AH 3.5x10x50 with TDS reticle and 2 of the 4x12x52 MultiZero's. The 2 MZ's are a definite upgrade from the older AH. From the new Kahles website it seems as though Kahles is making a corporate and marketing move to become better known as a high end European optics company. This is from their greatly increased pricing and the new models and innovations shown there. Now IMO, when Kahles came out with the CL's and MZ's they upgraded their glass and became comparable with Swarovski if very close with Zeiss and S&B. So I don't think the new Kahles will have that much better glass but all of them now have 30mm tubes with 2nd focal plane. The digital automatic light illuminated reticles will be first class and the MultiZero feature (I have 2 of them) are superb. I got both of my Kahles MZ's off gunbroker for $600.00 each a couple of years ago when everyone thought Kahles was going out of business. I think those days of bargains are gone now but if you happen to find one cheap, grab it because it is worth it. Especially now since it looks like warranty service is getting set up. This is an excellent buy! As are all of these! ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

So what's the difference between the Helia CSX's & the Helia CL MZ's from CDNN. I'm tempted to try one of those CL's out at those prices. Are they as rugged as a Leupold? One of my upriver buddies has several Conquests and just spent 2200 on a davari, 2.5-10-50mm and tells me it's 4 times better than any Leupold he has ever seen. I must a awful poor man living with Leupolds all these years, ha.

The CL's from CDNN are 1" tubes and discontinued models. As far as being rugged, one of my CL MZ's is on a 338RUM and has been for about 300 shots now. Hasn't gone squirrely yet. When you think about it, the MultiZero claim to fame is the repeatability of the elevation adjustments, up and down to the elevation marks. If it were not 100% reliable in the turret adjustment then they would soon get them all back for warranty or we would be hearing about it. Both mine are operating predictably. The zero stop is also unique and there is no way to lose your zero. IMO if you are used to Leupolds then the Kahles will be a definite step up, but then IMO most any scope would be.
