I saw this on a Savage 99 today. Anyone know anything about it? I kinda liked it, small and compact. The rifle is in great shape too.

They were available in the 1950s. They ran an add in most of the gun magazines..I got one in a gun trade and used it for short time, but didn't see any advantage to it. They were not on the market more than a few years.

Yes, Nick Stroebel ('Old Gunsights & Rifle Scopes') says they came out in 1951 in 2.5x and 4x.

The ad reproduced in Nick's book is one of the more incredible puffs I can remember, promising miraculous performance for the price of $34. The main claim, however, appeared to be that you could whip it off the rifle in a moment and stick it in your pocket.

They look analogous with Carl Zeiss's first scope attempt, the 1905 prismatic, which could have doubled as a periscope. The Zeiss appeared to have a long barrel below and ahead of the prism, serving perhaps only as a mounting point for front rings - but making it much more stable than the Boone. The Boone was claimed not to be prismatic, though, using mirrors instead.

The idea comes up occasionally ... ;-)

it will have seriously reduced opical qualities compared to a 1 - 4 or 1 - 6 scope ... but of course, it will be lighter weight and cheaper ...
