Anybody dissatisfied with theirs especially in prime early morning and early evening lower light hunting hours?

I really like them, but I've only held and viewed through them in the store.

Thanks

I have posted this response before. Typically where I hunt we see more game at dusk and dawn. In Africa and the far north I suspect you may see game animals in more day light. I have Zeiss FL's, Swarovski EL's and leica Ultravids (non HD,s).
They are all outstanding in day light. The EL's may be the most 3 dimensional, The new Zeiss FL's may be the brightest in low light.
The leicas have the ability to differentiate greater variations of gray scales when the sun sets and you loose the ability to see color and great resolution. This enables you to better pick out game animals against back drops in low light. I think the Leicas are the best low light Binoc's for this reason.
Back in the "film" days. Practically all professional black and white photography was done with German optics (Carl Zeiss, Leica, etc.) They were best at producing varying shades of shadows. The Nikon and Canon products never excelled in this realm. I guess the Germans had coatings better suited for this application.

I've got 10x42s and 12x50s. For blind use and really low light the 50s are wonderful but for carry I use the 42s. Both are good glass.

I saw this morning in the Amsterdam airport some Leica Ultravid 10X42's for 498 Euros at the CAPI SHOP Lounge 2. They won't last long at that price. I bought the last 8X42's.

I received my Ultravid HDs today and I was just trying them out as the light faded this evening and all I can say is that I am very impressed. Thank you all.

I'm sure those HD's are awesome to view with.
What power did you buy, and what do they weigh?

Thanks,

Don

I've had the priveledge/pleasure to have owned & used many of the high end bino's like Zeiss & Swaro's, my latest toy is a pair of Leica 10x42 Geovid range finders, I have used them for about 12 months now & would not part with them, Just one strange thing I have noticed is the left eyepiece tends to mist over in poor temperatures/damp weather, no idea why this should be so! maybe it's an age thing , my left eye tends to water a little jumping

I was planning to buy the Ultravid HD last fall, but I changed my mind and went for the Swarovski EL 10x42 instead. According to my dealer Swarovski has done some improvements on the EL-models lately.(And more is to come...)
I arrived at his store late one evening and got to compare both models as the daylight was rapidly fainting.
Both great binoculars, but the Swaro was definitely the best when light grew weak.
The Ultravid slightly smaller and a wee bit lighter, but I love the shape of the EL.

Hi Niak,

You are right Swaro "wants to bring out" a new EL edition, but this won´t happen before next year, but at the moment there is a very special pricing as "60yrs edition" of Swarovski - so have a look here:

http://www.titanium-gunworks.d...i-edition/index.html

and remind, that "outside European Community" guys have to pay 19% less then those prices shown here due to VAT...

I think this is a hard offer to beat - and I am with You: I love my 8,5x42 EL binos and I also use them for night hunting and I could see more or at least the same then with my 8x56 Zeiss Classic !!!

The Swarovski EL binos are superb. I would rate them over any other bino!

I ended up buying a pair of Swarovski SLC's in 7x42, with the Swarobrite coatings. They are very good for the terrain I hunt. We hunt mostly in heavy swamps, and fairly dense brush; not any open plains hunting. We do have large expanses of open areas, but you won't find any Deer there during legal shooting hours.
The color rendition of the Swaro's is just outstanding. I also have a pair of the Meopta 7x42's, similar to the ones Cabela's have for sale, and they are very close to the Swaro's, but the Swaro's are better with the image and color.
The only down side to both of these binox is their weight. The Swaro's weigh in at 33.5 ounces, a bit too much for an old guy like me to lug around through the woods. The Meopta's are close to the Swaro's in weight. I would prefer binox in the 20 ounce range for the walking game. Now, I'm thinking the smaller Leica or Swaro in 8x33, or there abouts.
I think that there is too much emphasis on higer powers for binox. They are fine for western hunting where you view terrain from afar, but for the swamps, low powers rule, like 7x, or even 6x. I guess there isn't the market for these low power binox, so none of the higher end makers have them for sale. Too bad, 'cause there are whole lot of other guys like me living and hunting in similar types of terrain. I think the east and south are similar.

I have a new pair of Swarovski 8X30W, the porro prism model. Weight is around 19 ounces. Great binoculars if don't wear eyeglasses. If you do, you'll want to wear contact lenses, because the eye relief just isn't there. But for their weight they have great glass.

I have sent in the warranty cards on two pairs of Leica binos within the last 5 months and have never received any type of confirmation from Leica that they received them. Should I expect anything back from them because I have heard where other customers received a confirmation by mail?

Thanks
