Try using the cardboard tube out of a roll of paper towels for a telescope like you did when you were a kid. It's cheaper and 90% as effective.

Amen!!

Save up for the Nikon Sky and Earth.

Cheap spotters are just not worth buying.
And they are anything but "affordable".

cheaptrick.....out!!

I learned the hard way, optics is one thing where you get what you pay for. Save the $$$ and get something with a good name.

Don't buy an NCStar. They shouldn't be encouraged to continue making such crap.

animal Seems that there are a few strong opinions on this one...

Yeah, one thing for sure when it comes to optics, you get what you pay for... Quality glass isn't cheap, quality grind isn't cheap and an overall quality scope is not cheap...

You can get some good optics at a "reasonable" price and great optics at an almost scary price..

Whatever you do, compare several at different price points and decide what your eyes like and disklike...

I like Heat's approach. Rather than bash or run down a product, he states simple truth and encourages you to compare. Not everyone has a chance to do much comparison always. But that is the optimum. Heck if you can only compare three in your price range, one will be better than the others.

However, in the case of NCStar and a few others, been there, done that, is such a waste of time I don't feel reticent about saying, don't waste your time. Skip them and compare among products that might be worthy. With some brands I might hem and haw and say look for yourself, but with NCStar, nope the stong opinions are caused by the poor results you can expect from them.

I agree with Esldude, always research but the Ncstar stuff is utterly horrible, spending 40 dollars on it is like burning it. I would seriously save the money for good optics though. The best gun in the world won't hit anything without good sights.
