Warne Crossbolt bases? ? ? ?

I have several of the same model rifles and I want to move scopes from rifle to rifle without having to make changes to the rings. I have tried the Leupold QR mounts and bases but have not been pleased with the return to zero. So I have tried the Weaver crossbolt bases and the return to zero is pretty good but the bases are aluminum and the supplied slotted screws are very poor quality. So I am now looking at the Warne bases.

Any experience or comments about Warne products?

Thanks in advance

Warne is rock solid and has great customer support. Are you trying to take a scope from one rifle and mount it on another and at the same time maintain the same zero on the new rifle as it had on the previous rifle?

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your reply. In answer to your question - I am trying to do two things:

1. Yes, I want to be able to move a scope from one rifle to another with a "close" starting point to zero. I understand that every rifle/scope combination will be a little different. But it would be nice to not have to go through a full bore sighting procedure every time.

2. The other reason for the "switch option" is to have a backup scope for a rifle on a hunting trip. If I can presight two scopes I can have a backup that is very close to zero in the event the first scope is damaged or fails. It would certainly be preferable to be able to pull the damaged scope off and put on the backup without having to find a range for a sight in. Another aspect to this is that there could be a time when I might want to go from a high power, long range scope to s lower power with a wide, fast field of view.

Glad to hear that you think highly of the Warne products. One reason for using the crossbolt design is that there are several different manufacturers of cross bolt mounts/rings that should work with the Warne bases.

Again, thanks!

Weaver makes steel bases in the Weaver format called the Grand Slam.
I believe the Leupold QRW bases are also steel.

You may not realize this goal. There are so many variations in receivers and the straightness of barrels and threads that you will find you have a rifle or two that are stinkers and deny this convenience.

SD Shooter,

The Warne bases work just fine with the QRW rings and vise versa. But if this is for a hunting trip that you already are going to have an investment into, please look at the Talley rings and bases. If those are not an option, then by all means get the warne QD rings or the Leupold QRW, both work damn good.

Joe
