Just happen to be the fortunate recipient of a gratis brand new VX-III 4.5 x 14 to drop on my new Savage 300 mag(which is an absolute beauty, synthetic with Accu-stock and trigger).....the rings were in place but I needed to order the mounting bracket from Farrell......WOW!....let's just say the scope rings and mounts cost as much as some guns.....I'm guessing they provide one hell of a secure scope set up. Report to follow once I get there.

Just received the plate....how important is proper torqueing? Do I need a smith to mount this? I do not have a torque wrench.

The proper torque is very important if you don't want to chance breaking off the screw. I bought a torque wrench from Brownells so I could do it right. I think they call it a torque handle. It comes in handy for torquing the crews and bolts on my rifles and scope rings and bases.

I also have the Brownell's torque wrence and give it a good rating. IMHO Farrel rings are fantastic and are equal to NightForce rings. I predominately use them for tactical applications with one exception, as they are very heavy. I have a few Savage rifles that I mounted a 1 piece picatinny Farrel base and simply move one Zeiss scope from mount to mount when needed. For hunting rifles I really like the 1 piece aluminum Talley ring/base combo. Blue locktite them down and they don't move even on the big boys. Just in case you were not aware you do not need to lapp Farrel rings (or Nightforce for that matter).
